Thats too bad. The whole process is so opaque at times. I guess it adds to the mystique of owning a Ferrari but has its negatives for sure. Its never a clear cut answer. Who knows I may get surprised still and be told I need to buy a lusso.
Those Lusso cars you were looking at have likely been auctioned off. Dealers need NEW Lusso orders to play the allocation game with the Pista and are clearing house based on expected flood of future Lusso orders/sales. Any clearing of used Lusso cars is simply a dealer trying to hose the customer and has no influence on factory allocations for a Pista.
Should've read my prior posts to navigate through the dealership smoke and mirrors. I work with one of the largest automotive dealership groups in the country and the games being played by F dealers are classic in the industry.
By the sounds of it, they couldn't move a Lusso to save their life. Trying to force unwanted models on people just so they can get a car that people actually want.
I actually dont mind getting a Lusso as I like the car. But I would buy the one at CNC at $100k off+ or another used.
I know you’ve blamed the dealer before in earlier posts but that simply isn’t the case. It’s not the dealerships commanding people to buy Lussos. It comes from above. 100% certain.
Look, let's face it. Its Ferrari. If we were in their shoes, we would do precisely the same. They create demand with splendid, limited cars. No other manufacturer can proforma future sales with nearly 100% accuracy. They know exactly how many cars they are going to sell and they don't make cars that aren't pre-purchased. What other company can say that. Since they limit Pista, they will sell out and can use that market power to drive lusso sales. Let's be honest, we would do the same with something everyone wants but most cant have. These are not iPhones. Let's stop grousing about it and marvel at way this company has built the world's most desirable brand, able to require customers to drop $400,000 on cars they don't want. Capitalism is a wonderful thing. This is just capitalism blended with art on wheels
Does it really matter if it's dealer or factory driven. It's their product to sell and if dealers only get a few, they can attach any strings customers are willing to pay for (or the factory demands). I read similar complaints about the TDF, a far more limited production. If you can get an allocation but can't stomach the lusso tie-in, don't buy it. There are plenty of people who would love a Pista allocation and would gladly buy a lusso for an allocation, but will never have that chance until the secondary market and will have to pay far more than what you will lose on a lusso.
Except it isn't Ferrari that's doing it, it's dealers... a common practice in the field. Pista is not a "limited" car, as mentioned in my prior post with video. 1- If this was coming from the Factory (Ferrari), every single Pista customer would be required to own a Lusso, which isn't the case. 2- If nobody agrees to buy a Lusso, do you think they will not make any 488 Pistas, or even end production early? I rest my case... Again, common dealer allocation games that is played and well known in the field. To those customers that wanted a Lusso regardless of a Pista, more power to them. Just trying to save others from being jerked around by smoke and mirrors, that's all.
I think you’re right and wrong. Dealers get allocations of cars based on their sales. They are also tasked with selling the full range of cars. For dealers that have allocations of Lusso that they haven’t sold, there’s for sure pressure on them to sell the cars in order to get more of the cars they want. Dealers who have owners that do Tailor Made, Atelier and Challenge series will be further up the totem pole to get the “good” car allocations. Ferrari plays the sales game very well.
I got an allocation without buying a 488 or Lusso before and give it back. In my opinion is the car 40.000 Euro overpriced. People buying a Lusso to get the car don`t want the car. They want publicity or attention. But are in my opinion not interested in the car. Thats my personal opinion.
Thank you for confirming my prior post #102 just above yours and many others I mentioned before. This practice isn't exclusive to Ferrari either.
I don't think so. Maybe in the first few months, but after a year, you must be extremely lucky to get back what you paid. This is different with Speciale, if 488 was not turbo, Speciale is on discount now.
I love everything about the Pista except the fact that it is turbo. Normally I would not buy a turbo car but in th case of the Pista I would make the exception if I could get my hands on one .... she is so sexy!
What will happen to the price of the Pista on the secondary market is probably pure speculation at this stage, but I think the main factor will be the actual scarcity. I understand there are many turbo haters (though I do not understand why ) but I do not think in the end it will be what matters; the 288 GTO and F40 are not considered inferior to the F50 and Enzo (which have both the additional 12-cylinder advantage). As good as the Speciale is, it is also valued because of its relative rarity - which is evidenced by the crazy prices for the Speciale Aperta: the Speciale Aperta is no more than a spider Speciale but what makes its price premium is its rarity. A 2015 458 does not sell for more than a 2015 488, and an older 458 sells for much less. The pattern is always similar; first a recent older car is outdated (and less sought after), and then it becomes rarer and classic as it ages - for a while the Challenge Stradale were less expensive than the Scuderia, now they have come back.
Hi, Have you been told officially or is it a guesstimate ? I know a dealer who asked for 35 cars (same# as Speciale) and was told he would get 21, none in 2018, 7 in 2019, the balance in 2020....my own dealer keeps on pushing by a week every week when he will be able to confirm the "if and when"....
was at the show this weekend, my dealership gets 19, I'm 12 on the list of the factory (I have a 488 gtb ordered 10/2016 and received 10/2017 on the show in Geneva, we had the confirmation of the Germans, Swiss, Belgian, and French .... all sold before the show
