Hi New to list Apologies if questions redundant or previously answered 87 TR, black and tan, 27K, I relocated back to the US so TR is in new shop and they appear a bit clueless Questions Oil Filter. Source? Told " aftermarket" 187 dollars- didn't specify type Preferred oil ?- am told AGIP NLA, vehicle used spring summer early fall Wisconsin only Preferred brake fluid? Coolant? AC fan rheostat switch was sticky, now doesn't function. Replacement? Repair? Driver window slow, passenger no lift at all. Recall 308 QV did same. Replacement? Cleaning? In NE Wisconsin, nearest dealer Lake Forest Chicago. Any advise re proper shop? Thinking major belt service this year. thanks Marc
You are correct, all these questions have been answered numerous times I was politely pointed to the search function when I was a rookie and it is quite useful, you will find all the answers to your questions. My best advise about service would be to contact Tim Keseluk in Minneapolis he is a member here 2NA, very knowledgable independent and ferrari owner, I wouldn't wast my time at a dealer for a service on a car of this vintage. These are great cars once sorted out and sounds like you have a few DIY jobs that most owners try to tackle on their own such as the slow windows. I've attached a few links for you and a link to Tim's website, do yourself a favour and contact him no BS and definitely not clueless. http://www.vintageandexotic.com https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/power-window-rebuild.317940/ https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/where-to-buy-ufi-oil-filters-still-available.479965/page-3
welcome to the flat 12 enthusiasts and thank you for filling out your profile a little. you may add your location also please, because then it is easier to see later where you stay and not have to read your 1st post always? may be some other member is in the near of you and could help you better than one far away from you as jeff already mentioned, use the search function and you will find all answers to your questions. is your car still a single nut wheel or 5 nut wheel car?
Thank you very much. I tried the search previously but obviously not properly Yes, its been a great car- 10 years of ownership and nothing but routine maintenance, back tires and a battery You advice is greatly appreciated.
After market filter is a bit of a mystery. Here is an OEM with all the fixins for $155 why did they quote you $187 for aftermarket? Image Unavailable, Please Login
I just ordered an UFI from Rutlands on Ebay for 95 dollars. I don't know where the $187 came from Now to chose an oil..
For the windows...clean motor first...grease it and check... cold weather could be ur enemy here but if that still doesnt work u may need new motors! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
the motors normaly not have to be cleaned. they are so built that no dust can go inside. it is the old grease between the extension of the motorshaft and the geartooth that is getting very hard. so remove this old grease, but please use some gloves. this grease is hard to get off from your hands.
Great- thanks Getting conflicting advise on oil- synthetic or not? Mobil 1? Castrol? Shell? Valvoline? Car only gets a few hundred miles per year but don't wasn't to have leaking seals?
even in my competiton I use only normal mineral oil 15 W 40. the synthetic oil is too fluid/ too thin and the aluminum is like a sponge and the engine ( the early ones ) will then mostly be a little oily even the seals are ok
WOW Marc! I too have a black testarossa, 86 single mirror. Absolutely stunning when polished up and running well. Glad you are spending some time and effort in sorting her out. Keep asking questions, lots of guys here willing to help or at least point you in a direction.
Awesome car and welcome to the asylum. Ferraris of that vintage often develop slow windows due to the original lubricant turning to gel. It may just need cleaning.
Yes she is a lovely car. Always wanted an 87 black and tan. Unintentional purchase 10 years ago. Rhum consumption plus ebay motors= awoke to find seller dropped reserve, I was high bidder and no other bidders. OOPS. Problems #1. Getting married in a week #2. I was living on a remote out island in the Bahamas- one road, 100% import duty #3. Seller was a personal injury lawyer whose ebay listing threatened legal action against any bidder who retracted a bid #4. I didn't have the money. Fortunately, practicality has never been a consideration in my automotive purchases- hence my choice of a 1971 Citroen SM as one of my daily drivers on aforementioned island.
Grease turning to gel? More like turning to solid goo. Yes take apart and use synthetic grease. Search for post on windows and little C tool to help with reassembly.
Yeah, the Ebay listing showed the TR with a nude model perched on the vehicle. Ebay seller moniker " Jesus is my savior 777" The vehicle still had the models butt prints on the wind screen when I purchased it. Image Unavailable, Please Login If you look carefully you can still see the Bahamian front tag on the SM.
I am french living here in the US and i am hoping to one day own one of those. Definitely unique! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
