What's your steps for removing the undertray?

    So yesterday was my first crack at removing the undertray and I have got to figure out a better way. Anyone have a nice clean way of doing it? For example, here's what I did.

    1. Got car on my lift.
    2. Removed all bolts and dropped the tray.
    3. Realized that my car was too low to pull it out the back - on top of the fact the wheels were in the way as well to pull it out the back.
    4. Jacked one side of the car up and removed a rear wheel and put blocks under the hub assembly to support that side.
    5. Finally was able to finagle it out the back.


    So upon writing this I'm wondering if the easier way would be to jack the car up with wheels on and get blocks under the tires to the point I can drop it and pull it out the side? Thoughts?

    You can pull it out from the side, between the front and rear wheels, without removing the wheel. The under tray is flexible so it's not too bad.

    Putting it on by yourself is the annoying bit, heavy as hell and there's a lot of bolts.

    PS: I am referring to the 430

    That’s what I started to see as I was typing out my thoughts. My issue is the tray wouldn’t come out the side without my car sitting higher, thus the need to raise it up on blocks first.

    You must be slammed. The tray is only about 1" high.

    Even so, if you have just one of the rear wheel on race ramps you can take it out. That's how I usually do it.

    I am planning to use a 2 post lift and then settle it down on race ramps instead of the blocks that specify

    1. Put rear wheels on redneck ramps
    2. Unscrew bolts
    3. Push forward to clear the cross member
    4. Slide forward and the. Out side in between wheels

    I use a screw jack to lift the car enough to slide them out. Learned that trick from the dealer

    Utter pain the butt if you are using a QuickJack as it blocks the exit between the front and rear wheels...

    I've been considering purchasing the quickjack. Can you tell me which model you ended up getting, whether it needed the extended length version and if you could post a picture of where you placed the lifting blocks on the frame, that'd be great!

    I purchased the 3500 model because someone on this forum recommended it. It is the wrong one! The weight is ok but the front support ends up being about 6 inches back from the edge of the wheel-arch - ideally they need to be on the diagonal part inboard the rear of the front arch. I decided to use it and lifted the car gently. There is no deformation of the floor. The rear supports are the round plates within the engine undertray.

    So, the 3500SLX model will work, but the 5000SLX is the one to get.

    hmm, if the support ends 6" back from the edge of the wheel arch, then it sounds like the extended length model is the one to get as the extended length (ELX) model is exactly 6" longer than the standard length (SLX) models. In any case, thank you for confirming! I'll most likely pick up their 7000lb model so that it works on my SUV as well

    it's a pain, primarily because when on a lift, I can't remove the undertray since the lift pucks go through cutouts in the undertray. The cutouts are completely circumferential and don't have a "cutout" to allow removal around the pucks. (maybe I'll make my own cutout, but then some future buyer will say "oh my god, sacrilege! and want X thousand dollar price reduction <grin>.


    I put on lift and raise car
    remove majority of fasteners
    lower car so that tyres are on blocks which allows ~ 4" extra clearance
    lay on my back and remove last fasteners while cursing ferrari designers that did not allow "cutout" in undertray.
    slide undertray out the side
    lift again and do whatever i was going to do.

    No, the 5000SLX is fine, it's the 3500SLX that is too short.

    So this may seem like a silly question but reading through the PDF, can I remove only the rear section of the undertray for an oil and gearbox fluid change or must all three sections be removed?

    See the middle pic in post #14. That is all that is required to R&R the motor and gearbox oil. However, you cannot remove/inspect the gearbox filter unless you remove the rear bumper/tray or create an access panel in the rear tray/diffuser.

    I was able to get mine off without jacking up the car. I have a quickjack system and it would require a couple steps vs the lay on back next to car and stretch to reach the bolts.

    ^^^^ yep. The Quickjack hides 3-4 fasteners on each side. Even if you take those out first, as they are easy to reach, it will not allow the undertray to drop after removing the remainder. It will also not allow the undertray to be slid out the side, UNLESS you lower the car down onto ramps to provide access room out the side. So as stated above (bold), using the Quickjack is a multi-stage process. Doesn't take long, just requires a couple extra steps.

    They come in different sizes. Mine are 8 inches tall to the bottom of the wheel from the ground.
