At the prices you guys pay, a new interior is a pittance.
No. It isn’t. I got a quote to retrim the interior of the 456, and it came in between $40-50k. Things are expensive here. After spending a couple hundred K, the last thing you need is to spend another 50 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Restoration costs here as Gezim highlighted with just nuts, the local restoration industry jacked there prices to match the value of the cars. A friend is having a 964 bare metal repainted at the moment, he stripped all the parts of the car, back the rolling shell and its being done by a very reputable Porsche specialist who is actually cheaper than most shops, The car was paint stripped found to be straight except for one door which they have second hand one to replace it, if he gets back for under 40K ill be impressed 50 is nearer the figure. Front bumper on my 456 I had repainted $3,500AUD lucky it was covered by insurance.
Yeah it’s crazy Taz. Ferrari ownership here certainly isn’t achievable here for many people. I look at the international ads for cars with much envy! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Don’t remember seeing a reference to this in this thread but a 2000 456M MANUAL is to be auctioned on April 6/7 RM Southeby’s Fort Lauderdale. Beautiful exterior color (Azzurro California), low-mileage (13k), and freshly serviced. I expect a hammer around 125-130, but that color..... Love it!! Wouldn’t surprise me, given the miles and recent service work and the unique color, to see it approach 150k. I hope not, if I’m ever to get one!! Lol
Well, sorry to take the opposite position but since I already have one, I'm really hoping a new best friend falls deeply in love with the Azzuro beauty and turns Heaven and Earth (ie something like $200k) to fulfill his dream!! [emoji16] Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
I'm as mere mortal as they come! I'm just lucky to already have her. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
Mine'll be back up for sale in mid-May. Added a thousand kms or so last summer, but did a lot of work too.
Hi, Taking apart a 456 GT interior is not difficult. It is a lot of work, yes, and there is more leather than I have ever seen in any of the Jaguars I have owned, but it is not difficult. Beige / Crema may be a difficult colour to get perfectly clean, but all Connolly leather is surface dyed and can be cleaned or if necessary, the surface color can be washed off with solvent and the leather can be repainted to look just like new. If there are tears and scratches those can be fixed before the repaint. For $50.000 (even AUD or CND if not USD) I could do a lot of work. I did not need to fix more than a couple of small spots in my interior, but I took it all out, it's amazing what a difference it makes to just take all the panels out, clean them and treat them with the Connolly kit (Cleaner/ leather soap & Hide care / hide food) and put them back. I am waiting for the RH door seal and the a/c thermal fan switch before I can start to put the rest back in place. Oh and I hope an electrician (or magician) can get the driver's seat ECU fixed, or that it does not get worse. The old classic cars are easy. I don't mind fiddling with distributors and three, four or six carburretors, but I hate trying to debug undocumented electronics. Nobody seems to have a complete wiring diagram or schema for the 456 GT seat ECU? Or A/C ECU? Door ECU? Windscren wiper ECU? Or a reader for the Motronic 2.7? Oh well, I'll fix what I can and then in May or June the car will get serviced by a specialist...
Hi, Had this one been posted here yet??? https://www.classicdriver.com/en/car/ferrari/456/1994/521389 I think it's rather nice, and early EU spec car, no airbags etc. Yes, the A/C panel is bubbly and surely many things would need attention (the stereo, leather, A/C, possibly rear shocks, fuel pump mounts etc.) but overall a very nice car! Is it just the photo or has something been applied to the sills? And front lip /spoiler? It will be auctioned in France next week, I would like to see a lot more photos before before getting a ticket to Lyon.
Hey Fennicus. Yes, I’ve removed the interior for various reasons. I’ve had a leather ‘specialist’ work on it. I removed the entire interior, except the dash, and let him get to work. Unfortunately I did t know he was going to paint it. A friend of mine has a specialist he uses for his high end cars (he is a dealer) and he does exactly what you suggested. He removed the crappy paint, redyes the leather and conditions it. I’ve seen his work and it’s incredible. I was resigned to re-trimming to get the interior looking how I want, but am now much happier. Luckily, there is no shrinkage and the entire interior is in good condition, and he says it will look terrific. As for the Electrics/electronics, as a career long Auto Elec, I feel your pain. Looks like Canne di Fucile (gun barrel) as the color. Simply fabulous. As for the sills and front lip, I can't tell from the photos as there is a lot of contrast and shading against the snowy backdrop. Now, to be a complete hump, I would prefer a dove grey interior to go with the Canne, but the car really is a beauty as is. Pricing range looks rational. If it speaks to you, looks like one to make the effort to get all the information and go for it.
Quite lovely. I haven't seen the color in person, only photos, but I think I like it! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
I was watching online and this car just hammered no sale at $40,000. https://backoffice.rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/FL18/Fort-Lauderdale/lots/r0347-2000-ferrari-456m-gta/658376 I believe this is the grigio ingrid car that was previously listed on ebay and previously discussed here. If I recall it had a check engine light and/or ecu problem. If so, owner should have sold it at $40k.
Sotheby's is having a terrible auction. And Ferrari in particular. Yesterday, of 8 Ferraris offered, 6 no sales, 1 TR withdrawn, and 1 348 sold at $51k. Today so far, two no sales out of 2. Pretty much a freaking disaster. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
That 456 is also remarkably poor condition for an RM car - lots of leather shrinkage, saggy headliner, yellowing protection film in wheel arches, on top of the terrible photography. Is RM looking to go downmarket and compete with the likes of Russo and Steele? Ruben
The results would seem to support that. And the auctioneer sounds like he would be more comfortable doing livestock somewhere in the mid-west. Their staff looks rumpled and like they belong at a Mecum sale in Kissimmee. Really not the right setup for the South Florida Ft. Lauderdale crowd.
Just started watching live - the auctioneer sounds a lot more like a Russo and Steele or Mecum auctioneer. Didn’t they have some posh British dude as an auctioneer in the past? Ruben
