Ferrari 456 cars for sale

They did indeed. Just sold the 04 575M at $130k. First decent sale in two days. Low est was $140k for all that.

And the 00 456M GT in Azzuro California hammered at $115K (low reserve was $120k). 6-MT in a gorgeous color and low mileage. Somebody got a pretty damn good deal on that car.

 

Well this FL sale used to be done under the Auctions America division, but RM got rid of Auctions America so the sale is proceeding under the RM Sothby's label, even though it is the same sale, same auctioneers from Auctions America etc. so that is why it is different than the high end RM sales.

 

Beautiful car. So with buyer's premium the price paid should be $126,500 if my math is correct.

I think the comments about the auction are right on. Makes you see the wisdom in using the Auctions America name for this auction. Not sure why they want to drag down the RM brand after all the work they did to build it into such a success on the high end auction scene.

 

Note on that Ingrid 456M GTA, they only show her with the driver's side window down. Might be hinting at something.

 

Your eye for detail and innuendo remains both amazing and amusing, Taz. Can't quite imagine buying and finding the window doesn't go up. Sheeesh!!

Agreed laserdude, a good buy. I’m not the “expert” that some on this thread are re what to look for re a car’s general condition but 115k seems like a very good buy, if only for the color- and the rarity of- alone (it looked to be in good shape and had a service history). I mean how many manual Ms can there be here in the US? I think we’re talking about her!! Well done purchaser. Maybe there’s still hope for us mere mortals.

 

The number of manual 456Ms that came between 97 & 03 is one of great debate. Ranges from some who think it as low as mid-60s to others (Taz in particular) who think it as ~50% of Ms imported or something shy of 300. A topic that has seen lots of discussion. In any case, they don't seem to come up for sale very often, perhaps 2-3 per year and the prices have varied over the last three years from this $115k up to $135k and have softened back to roughly this car in the recent generally soft market. I think this one in Azzuro is a pretty good buy. It'll be interesting if the buyer joins us here on the forum.

Talking to one of the guys at Ferrari of Washington and he said it’s been several years since they have seen a manual 456 of any kind. With those prices and what’s on the market in the 550 world, I’m spending more time looking for a 550

 

Here’s the “funny” thing John, Ferrari of Washington (state) was “part” of the manual M price “bubble” (from the eyes of this mere mortal). They had a blue M manual listed for (originally) $175k, maybe even 189k (!!). Nothing
special (e.g. under 10k miles, and/or ALL the right options). It sat for months and months at that price. Later it sat for months and months at 150k. Then it was gone. Often discussed in this thread, I’m pretty sure laserdude knows the car I’m speaking of. Laser must have come across it during his search because it was on the market at the same time.

Anyone notice a 575 and a 550 were both in the same auction as the 456M (manual) and/or know the results?

 

I do remember that car. It was a '00 456M GT. I still have a bunch of the data in my file from when I was shopping. TdF with tan interior (standard seats, no piping, not Daytonas), mileage was 7,684. When I first saw it, it was listed at $175k, then dropped to $159.9k, then $149k, then $139k. Then it disappeared, presumably purchased but I'm willing to bet it wasn't at $139k but somewhere lower.

As for the auction, the 550 was one of the six Ferrari no sales on Friday. I believe the bidding stalled at around $80k. The 575 sold on Saturday at $120k against a low estimate of $140k. The bidding on the 456M stopped at $110k which was below the seller's reserve. The seller was there and the auctioneer asked the seller what it would take to move the car, he replied $115k and the buyer agreed to meet that. On average, for Ferraris, the sale was yielding ~85% of low estimates and therefore had a lot of no sales. Six out of 8 Ferraris offered on Friday. I think it was similar on other cars. That crowd was not interested in buying unless it was a real bargain.

Indeed. Covers 550, 575, TR, 348, 355, and 456M both auto and man. It's the man 456M that has done the best. Interesting for sure. Dare I say the model is beginning to gain a bit of warranted respect? Or perhaps I am just being hopeful....[emoji6]

Henry, the last gated production v-12, I certainly can see why the 456M (manual) pulled so strongly. And that exterior color, FANTASTIC!! Almost undoubtedly the only Azzurro California M manual in the entire US. I wouldn’t have been surprised if it reached 150k based on the color (rarity) alone.

Re the 456M that Ferrari of Wash had: I didn’t remember/realize that it had such low mileage (under 10k)- thanks Laser. I’m curious Laser, did you ever call them to inquire about the car? Even the car that Laser ended up buying sat for several months at a (“normal”) asking price in the low 100k range (manual). And Laser’s is a nice/desirable color combo w/ Daytona inserts (and piping) adding to its value. Definitely a good buy by Laser. Even w/ the softer market now I would think that Laser would be able to get at least his buying price (read: “above water”)

 

Thanks. She hasn't faded below the water line but I have no interest in selling. At least not for the foreseeable future. I never called Seattle cause I thought they were way out of line. Mine needs a bit of progressive love but isn't needy if that makes sense. Just needs a loving owner to address a few cosmetics and be vigilant on standard issues. Example, I really ought to swap the bombs based on age and likewise do the fuel pump gaskets and filters.

Seattle of Washington WAS way out of line. And the market said exactly that; hence it sat and sat and sat. You remember the CNC car Laser? Also a gated 456, but a pre-M. I think a ‘95 or ‘96 too (BEFORE the introduction of the GTA automatic). Another light blue car- I think it sat for literally a year with an asking of 135 or something. And for a pre-M!! Fantasy land.

 

Sadly, I think I agree. The 456 started all manual then offered the GM based auto. By the 456M, the auto became more dominant. Offer the whole 11 yr run, it seems it split out about 50/50 worldwide. After that, 575s and 612s with manuals were rarities as the pricing shows. 360s and 430s also had a depressing offering of sticks.

Given what I said earlier about belief in how many 456Ms made it to the NA market, I think that number is around 95. But Taz has some points toward a slightly higher number. In any case, I am downloading data from F-Register as they update it prior to going offline late in 2018. That is going to be one seriously lost resource unless some of us try to recapture it. I hope once that data is complete to be able to poll folks here to flesh it out as something akin to an owners register and be able to discern some better answers to these questions.

Yes Laser, I think you know I actually went to see your car in person (at the dealer’s). Agreed; it was in driver’s condition, just needed some “love”. Still a good buy. I would think that one would have to look for quite some time, if ever , before a manual M comes around with an “asking” approaching yours.

 

Thanks. I think (I selfishly hope) that day is past. I ended up just over $100k plus a pretty inclusive major so yesterday's $126.5k incl buyer's premium was alright by me.

That would be great Laser. I think that in time such a data-base will be invaluable, particularly regarding the number of manual Ms here in the US, which has so far has not been definitely established. I’m sure those “across the pond” think we’re a little obsessed on the subject (the number of manual Ms here in the US). Lol
