Not nearly as beautiful, but still nice. Very well built, though. Based on a modern California

I always thought the covered headlights on 1411 looked strange, now I know why. They should've left it open headlights when they rebodied it.

The same car in two different locations in 1963. Which s/n is this?

    Both images found on the

    https://www.thompsonhistorical.org/coldplugs/thompson_raceway01.htm

First image taken probally 13 or 14 October, 1963 at the Thompson Raceway

Second image taken a week before at the at Marlboro raceway. Description for the photo: "David Seielstad photographed the same car the week before at Marlboro. He also supplied the story behind it. Charlie Hayes (a well known Ferrari dealer and driver of the era) had the car up for sale in Maryland when it was damaged by a garbage truck. Repairs were partially done when these pictures were taken - the front chrome pieces and headlight covers hadn't been fitted yet".

I accidentally ran across this thread while killing time and would like to throw in some comments about LWB 1497 currently owned by Bill Marriott.

The following link shows some history: http://www.barchetta.cc/english/All.Ferraris/Detail/1497GT.250GT.LWB.Cal.htm, which you all probably have seen. I purchased the car from Bill Rogers in The Portland, OR area.around 1975. It was in rough but drive-able shape, smoking like it was using oil instead of gasoline. We haggled over the price, I finally relented at $1700 if my memory serves me right. My local sources and the guys at FAF Motorcars estimated $10K in any condition. First thing I did was pull the engine, knurl the valve guides, install new rings and bearings, eyeball the rear main bearing cap stud made from hardware store threaded rod, I kid you not.

The car was very quick, and could stop on a dime, which would starve the engine for oil. I know that my wife "test" drove the car on occasion during the workday.

I bought a complete outside plug engine from a local friend, which I installed a few years later after moving to Buffalo. I put new baulk rings and bearings in the tranny at the same time.

The car interior was red vinyl, the door panels were padded with a diamond pattern if my memory serves me right. All the door hardware, instrument and switch knobs, and the wing vents were made from machined aluminum. Probably very expensive; not by me, and surely not by Bill. Maybe the first owner did it, or it came from the factory like that. No hint from the build sheet. Car came with a hardtop, but no ragtop.

The car suspension was very stiff, and the turning radius was like that of a bus. It felt like the seats were lower than the pedals, and one could grow a left leg like a tree trunk from driving in stop and go. Had a lot of fun in it.

Larry, you were owner #9. That website is incomplete.
    Rogers had paid US$ 5'175.

Interesting. Was the original engine in it, or with it, when you sold it?

MIURASV - The original engine went with it.

MARCEL MASSINI - Ninth owner? Wow, that car really made the rounds. I know that Bill took a loss selling it to me. It was in sad shape, I loved it. I wonder by looking at who previously owned the car and location, can you guess where the non standard interior and trim was installed? Does Bill M know he is the tenth owner? Maybe he doesn't care, it's his now. Of course I periodically bruise myself badly over my selling it. I probably would not have restored it, only fixed it up and used it as an occasional daily driver or for autocrossing. My cars were at the time were only worth to me what I put into them, other than bragging purposes.

A good family friend is Greg Garrison's widow. I'm too young to have known him before he died but it would've been amazing to tour his collection in the early 90s (when he owned this car).

    Thanks for the info.

2383 GT has no Le Mans history.
