I posted this in the "other racing" forum. Good to see what unrestrictive fuel flow rates can do....and not just in WEC. I dislike this efficiency crap. Hopefully, Mercedes follows suit and opens the fuel flow rate of its W08 to set a new lap record to correspond.

Jeez! I guess this year’s F1s will get the record back even with the heavy halo but this car was built in the first place to run for 24 hours non-stop. Even the sound of the turbo v4 is great

This is a good subject matter. F1 should be the fastest, PERIOD.

I´ve already expressed my disdain (pretentious, moi?) for this pathetic marketing stuff in the other subforum, but I´ll repeat it here:

    It´s pathetic marketing stuff.

Videos now available. It looks absolutely epic on the move! Come on F1 - if a heavy car like this can outgun the most technologically advanced formula on earth with a fraction of the budget, then something is clearly wrong. F1 is meant to be the pinnacle. Not the most expensive yet second best.

That's great for them to set a Spa lap record, but that's all it is, since the car goes beyond WEC spec and as we all know F1 has limits on the cars as well, so it's not a WEC vs. F1 fight in my opinion.
Why not make F1 totally unlimited then?

Remove the fuel restriction in F1 and they'd be doing 1.35's with ease.

It wasn't always, the 917/ 512 era sports cars were as fast if not faster than the F1 cars of the same period, as were the 3.0 (Matra, 312PB) cars that followed especially on the low drag circuits.

Little known fact the fastest lap in terms of average speed of a road course is as far as I'm aware Jacky Ickx's pole lap at the old Spa for the 1973 Spa 1000km. He lapped at an average of just over 163.679 mph and F1 has not quite beaten that yet even at Monza. Guess it could finally fall this year if qualifying at Monza is dry?

I wrote about Ickx's lap a few years ago http://www.drivecult.com/articles/553/the-fastest-lap

Nice article. Thank you for sharing. Yes, safety first, speed second. I do feel at this point with the cars safety levels we could safely have loop de loops common on F1 circuits without fatality.
