Yes, A GTB/GTS has a single window ECU buried in the dash. Yeah, it's fun to get to :)

Not a round button as the hazard, dome light and parking light are all 2 position. But, you don't need a switch, just a jumper wire across the pins on the connector. I seem to recall posting this prior.

Both seats are inoperative when key is off. In any case, the seats should operate in the same manner, power or no power. It should not be as you described it.

Buzzl, I think Mitch/Yelcab is saying that there is some kind of short in the roof module. As he says, "That same controller looks after the windows, the seats, and the spider top in the Spider version, installed in the center console behind the driver."

Interesting. I assumed the window controller was in the same spot as the GTB/GTS. I'll have to modify the notes on my diagrams when we find out where it is on the spider.

    Thanks!

P.S. I just checked my RHD '98 spider and the window controller is (kind of) behind the radio (on the right). It's attached to the left side of the pedal box. I assume on a LHD (US, Canada, Euro, etc) it will be attached to the right hand side of the pedal box (left hand side of the radio).

Is there a part number for the roof module or window controller?

The spider window controller is #164202. The roof controller is #64660200.

Part numbers can be found on websites such as Ricambi or Eurospares.

I think you'll find these parts are no longer available new. Eurospares list the roof controller at UKP1606.51 (but I'm sure it's nil stock). I remember a private seller listing a new one for $180,000 or something similar. I'm guessing he didn't find a buyer though ;) The window controller is easier to find (used) and may be bought for three hundred dollars or so.

You may find internal parts for these from a few cents to $20~$30. I know what I'd be trying first.
If there is relay jammed in the wrong position in the roof controller, perhaps this would cause your problem. Give the box a hit with the blunt end of a screwdriver or something to see what happens

Your problem is with seat control. Forget about the window controller. The window controller was just a mental diversion.

Do you hear the solenoid click? If so, the plunger is probably just stuck.

Is your car the Hoovies garage car?

The relay up front was clicking, not the solenoid. No, not the Hoovies Garage car.

Time to put a meter on the solenoid and see if it's getting power.

The previous owner had a switch installed for the top. Im wondering if this is where the problem is. How could I trace it to the seat? Do you have a photo of where the roof controller is?

Unplug the solenoid and test wire feeding solenoid, right?

Yes. If you don't get any power, then you need to ring out the wires. If you have power, the solenoid is either bad or stuck. You can also unplug the solenoid and apply 12VDC directly to it and see if it opens.
