I remember being in highschool. Used to ride 3 miles on my bike to the local library. Read every auto magazine front to back in one sitting...

I will always remember what the testarossa looked like on the cover... Always...

Remember all the reviews... "Stunning, but drives like a truck... Glorious 12 cylinder, with mickey mouse seats..." And then the testers drove it up 10 183mph, and were in awe. Right until it broke after a bunch of launches...

More practical than the countach they proclaimed, and 1 mph faster.

These cars became etched in my psych... that doesn't happen any more.

When was the last time a Ferrari buyer went in and bought THE ONE Ferrari model he yearned for? Doesn't happen. People go in, look around, see what fits the budget and has apple play, make sure the financing fits, and buy it.

What model do you own they might be asked. Answer? Not sure, 488 I think. Or 812. Maybe 456? Or was it 365? 888? Dunno. I think its a California. Maybe. I recall it was a proper whole number, between 400 and 900. Does it matter?

    Describe your new car?

Uh, its swoopy, red, has a horsey on it.

How is it different than a maclaren?

Well, it has a horsey on it... and it isn't silver.

Last Ferrari car with a numerical name I can ID was the 360....

    Sigh

I still remember sitting in a 2 hour study hall in the 9th grade. Drawing Testarossas based on photos next to my pad and paper when I was done with my work. I wonder if those are still in a box back home somewhere.

I like the Saleen stuff too, though I was introduced to their late 90s stuff. I used to have a super low mileage IROC, but it became too much for me to take it out. Felt like I was ruining it every time I put miles on it.

That's an awesome collection! I hope mine looks pretty similar in the near future. Are your Testarossa seats white? How do you keep them so clean (looking at one with a Crema interior...)?

I have a cream interior in my Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster.

....no problem keeping it clean. Just make sure your kitty cat's paws are clean ;)

I think 80's car are going to go up for a bit longer. Us 80's kids are finally hitting our earning potential and have extra cash for toys.
    80's nostalgia isn't peaked either.

I'm confused about the Taylor Swift connection. I know the title is 1989....but is it 80's music?

I am guessing that nobody needs to convince anybody else here that the TR is an iconic car :) Any, yeah, they are cool again (I hear the same arguements being made in the Porsche forums about air-cooled turbos and I actually have had one) .

But how many people are actually putting down the cash and BUYING one???

I'm a finance guy. The old saying of "cash talks.....BS talk/hype walks" is something that I agree 110% with.

There was a white '89 TR with only 14,800 miles that was listed on this site for 3/4 of last year. It had a price of only $103k. And still, after 9 months, it never found a buyer. The owner ended up trading it in for less than that asking price to a dealer for another sports car. He saved sales taxes by doing so..

And his was a great car. I spoke to the owner may times. GREAT guy and a true car guy.

So are white TR's awesome? HELL YES!!! Are they rare? HELL YES!!!

But this above info clearly illustrates the case that there is a very limited pool of ACTUAL BUYERS for one.

The $103K was a "no stories" car. And I could have bought it for less than that. Yep, kicking myself for that :)
