Could be...BUT Vettel could also go elsewhere: there could be (will be?) a seat for him at Mercedes. Or...Fernando Alonso could also go to Mercedes...

Can't find much interest in the races these days...in fact, after watching Formula One since 1973, I think I have now run out of steam for it. The only thing that still interests me is the silly season. Which started in April this year.

Horner wants Ricciardo decision by August

    April 24, 2018

Red Bull wants Daniel Ricciardo to make his decision about the future by August.

Big rumours are swirling that the Australian has signed a 'pre-agreement' to replace Kimi Raikkonen at Ferrari next year.

Reportedly, Ricciardo now has until the end of June to negotiate with the Maranello team about the terms of a real contract from 2019.

"I don't want to sign anything too long because I don't know where the sport's going," he told The Times.

"I think two years I can definitely be comfortable with and then see it from there."

If Ricciardo doesn't reach a deal with Ferrari,, he has also been linked with Mercedes and a week ago he won in China with the team that groomed him, Red Bull.

Asked what the deadline is for Ricciardo to extend his stay at Red Bull, team boss Christian Horner answered: "There should be a decision by the summer break at the latest. We do not want to wait forever.

"We have other good options. Our priority is to continue working with Daniel, but if that doesn't work out, we'll look to those other options," he told Auto Motor und Sport.

When asked what alternatives Red Bull is considering, Horner said: "The most obvious is Carlos Sainz. He is under contract to us.

"And then we have a few young drivers."

The original article, in German, is here:
    https://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/formel-1/red-bulls-teamchef-christian-horner-interview-f1-zukunft/

Something that made me tick is Horner's affirmation, when asked about engines, that: "Renault is very keen to continue with Red Bull in 2019".
Well...the grapewine (or scuttlebutt) here in France is that Renault has already signified to Red Bull that after the current deal which expires at the end of 2018, they will not provide an engine to Red Bull in 2019, either under their own name, or Tag Heuer, or whatever, under any circumstances...

    Silly season in full swing.

I think it's a safe assumption that this is Kimi's last season. So, his seat is the highlight of the silly season. And, as Ricciardo is not signed by Red Bull, it only makes sense that the gossip would revolve around him. I don't expect any kind of official announcement ahead of Monza. Rest assured Red Bull will be trying everything to retain him until then. The atmosphere at Red Bull really seems to suit the Aussie bloke.

Don’t bet on Alonso not trying to get back in a red car, he’d relish the chance to outdrive Vettel if he could..... maybe he’d be a bargain second driver, but ferrari would have to play very careful (but no more than if they have Ricci in the second car)

Well, read carefully the original article by Mark Hughes in "Motorsport Magazine"; there is one other information that I found intriguing: "The rumor has it that Sebastian Vettel, when renewing his deal with Ferrari, might not have obtained what he wanted and might be on a one year deal...".
Soooo...the seat available at the end of the season at Ferrari might also be that one...Fascinating, isn't it? Or am I too much of a complotist? Love the silly season.

Or Fernando might drive alongside Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes in 2019, a recipe that has already produced "interesting" results in 2007...

Perhaps Valterri Bottas at Mercedes doesn't find this as amusing as we do?

I don't see Nando going to Mercedes as long as Lewis is there. And for the time being (especially after the last two races), I think that Merc is perfectly happy with Bottles' performance and attitude.

Yes I agree. Why lose Bottas. He is doing what he is supposed to do and is a capable driver. I dont see Mercedes letting Bottas go. Not unless he starts having Max type moments costing the team money in repairs and points.

Bottas is the better driver of ‘Diva’ at the moment, they won’t want to change that. Alonso and Ricciardo will be used to drive Elton’s renewal price down instead

Pretty sure there’s never been a driver who has left Red Bull/Toro Rosso and has kept working in F1 with another team that is not Ferrari.
Vettel, Vergne, Kyvat and now likely Ricciardo. Max next?

Ricciardo going to Ferrari is like an 80% chance now. I wonder how that makes Kimi feel? Or Vettel?

It would be nice to have someone driving at Ferrari who isn't a robot for a change.

    I'd rather have Verstappen.

I know he rubs people the wrong way but the dude can drive.

If all it took was being a good driver to succeed in F1 then Alonso would be a 10X world champ. However he is only 2...

As much as I like Kimi I agree, his personality has gotten stale. I mentioned in the other thread that Ricci doesn't really fit in with Ferraris style but maybe with him on board Ferrari can shift. Arrivabenne is the same way. Like him, but he doesn't have the bubbliest personality either.
