He does not care who is to blame when it's so obvious it's Max - I wonder what he would have said had it been Ric.

So Merc had Bottles hold up Vettel -- and it screwed both of them?
(They can count on Vettel's "red mist"?)

Bottles didn't get the finish he deserved.
    Ferrari needs to avoid panics.
Bottas closing on Vettel's older tires, so they brought Vettel in for softs? Instead of waiting a couple laps to put him on ultras?
I was thinking that was a mistake. Looks like it was.
We've seen before: catching doesn't equal overtaking. ;)

Max -- two defensive moves, bad; two defensive moves against a teammate -- woodshed time. ;)
Of course, if RB had imposed team orders, most of this race would have been boring, without the internecine battles.

A whole load of drivers said that having to operate the DRS manually made it incredibly difficult to open and close it at the exact right times, so it was too easy to find themselves opening it too early, or closing it too late.

I believe the stewards accepted that they had to allow an element of human error, and basically agreed that no real advantage was gained, as the DRS was only in action for a fraction of a second longer than it should have been.

Looks like the stewards may rearrange the results after the race.

Got it the way Liberty wants it, yet?

Witness evidence as to what happened I would have thought, as neither Red Bull driver was directly involved in the incident.

I disagree as Marko was not at all complimentary to Max after he hit Vettel.

    **

    Marko -
Indeed, speaking after the Chinese grand prix, where Verstappen made high profile errors, another Red Bull boss Dr Helmut Marko insisted: "Daniel was flawless.

"You can see who can overtake and who cannot. Max was too impetuous," he told Austrian broadcaster ORF.

Gotta say, when race results are dependent on safety cars, luck and constant stewards meddling, can we really call this sport anymore? Might as well just pull balls from a bag and decide the race that way. Bit rubbish.

Monaco is no different. Yet that place is 'loved' by all and is hardly at all a race. I would love to see it gone and Baku retained. Monaco should be a charity race.

Except that this was Baku. Like Monaco, the assumption is that there will be mayhem. It needs to be accounted for when considering strategy options and sometimes requires quick rethinks in real time...

Personally, I like the tracks that bite back. The sanitized Tilke tracks have given us some very boring racing.

    Totally agree.

Monaco is a joke, and has been for many many years.
Just award the trophy after qualifying and everyone can retire to a large yacht a day sooner.

This might be a dumb question, but do F1 drivers not trail brake? I noticed Kimi's and Lewis' onboard tele while going around corners and they only brake in a straight line leading up to the corner and then lift off both brake and throttle and glide for like 0.5 seconds. Then it's back on the throttle. I always assumed these guys were braking toward the apex and then immediately on the throttle with no lag (like Schumacher).

But they admit that Max did a double move and thus caused the accident.

"The driver of car 33 [Verstappen] made two moves, both of which were relatively minor.

"The driver of car 3 [Ricciardo] admitted he left his move to overtake on the left, too late.

"It was obvious to the stewards that although the incident had its origins in the moves by car 33, the driver of car 3 also contributed to the incident.

    Max is definitely Teflon Boy.

Pity his car is more solid than the application of the rules.

What a messy race. Lewis was very lucky. Seb should of timed better the overtaking. I think Ferrari did good planning it's just that the constant SC completely ruined their chances of victory for both drivers. Seb lost WDC, but don't count on on lost of WDC yet. We still have 17 races left to go so plenty to play for. Not all bad news though Ferrari are leading the WCC by 10 points so they have the ability just need to be more wiser. Move on to Spain and let's hope further progress for Ferrari.
