I think the stupid Grosjean "crash" got under Vettel's skin. I think he was thinking he had 10 laps to take Bottas and then he ended up with only 4. So, he took a desperate move and lost.

IMO, he should have kept his head, pressured Bottas to make a mistake, and protected the points. But it's difficult when you want to win.

They say he has no luck. But, in fact, you make your own luck.

Crazy race, good job to Hamilton for extending the record for winning a race every year since he's been in contention

Agree fully and it’s not because I don’t like him. He crashed 2 times this weekend. The shine is gone with him. They need to rethink his place to lead the team in future. He is not having a good start at all.

Ricci should leave. He is marketable and a better racer overall at this stage in his F1 life. RedBull have no good engine options to begin with.

Max also did his old "jink around in the braking area" routine and it has finally caught a driver out - His team mate!

When you look at the on-board footage, he looks in his right mirror, spots Ricciardo moving right so covers him off, then notes Ricciardo moving back to the left (having sold Max the dummy), at which point Max goes straight to his left mirror, spots Ricciardo moving for the inside line, and so throws his car back to the left, and into the path of Ricciardo.

By this time, Ricciardo was carrying so much extra speed due to DRS + the tow, and had no down-force on his front wing, so the collision was inevitable.

Kimi said that having followed the Red Bull drivers for a number of laps, and seeing what was going on between them, the accident came was all but guaranteed, and that it was simply a case of sitting back and wait for it to happen.

I wonder what vacancies might exist for Ricciardo? Driver line-ups at Ferrari and Mercedes look solid at the moment. If Kimi maintains his present form he could well drive again next year; Bottas is doing a fine job as well. If Lewis's contract demands are just outrageous he could go to Mercedes but Lewis would be a fool to leave.

DR pits for fresh tires which should be faster, a bit faster but not much, but which also take an awfully long time to come up to working temperature on this track.

MV stays out a lap longer on tires that are still working almost as well as the new set should, but which are already up to temp.

With equal pit stop performance, that lap difference gave the lead to Max.

    Classic overcut.

Ferrari showed they still have the speed, pity about Vettel and he might need to learn to settle for a safe 2nd, letting the others crash around him. Thats what championships are made of. Raikkonen did well to take a decent 2nd. What the hell was mad max thinking of, RBR must step in and deal with that. As a kiwi, super stoked with Hartleys 10th and the first point by a New Zealander in 42 years.

And let's not forget that he bumped tyres before in turn 1 when he overshot and slided into Ricci....
This incident reminds very much to the one with Kimi in Spa two years ago...it does not look like Max did change anyhow in the meantime...all the talking from two weeks ago is already forgotten. I do know that a lot of people have a lot of expectations in him but unless he gets a car that runs away into the sunset from pole (even he can not screw that) I doubt that he will change a single bit...Max might be a huge talent but it looks like he is more fighting with himself and his habits than with other drivers.
And last race was an example that he does not get away with it against the top drivers when Lewis sent him off the track to teach him a lesson. As he was angry about himself afterwards unfortunately Seb had to deal with the consequences.

Max should consider himself lucky that Carlos is on loan to Renault. He could be quite easily been demoted back to Toro Rosso if Carlos was still driving for them.

Max may have been only 50% at fault, but why does it seem like he's in 100% of the collisions?

Max has just cost RB it’s only shot at the WDC by taking out Ricci. Unforgivable.

Unfortunately, RB chose wrong. They should have backed Ricci as their primary instead of Max, but they believed the hype. Heck, I believed the hype until I looked at the big picture.
