I’ve posted a similar question of Rennlist. I’ve secured a 2014 458 coupe - a car which I’ve always loved but never lived with. I love everything about the car but I don’t know enough regarding maintenance issues and ownership to commit.

On the other I have an allocation for a 2019 Porsche Turbo S. A very reliable car. A car that can be driven anywhere, anytime.

Looking for your opinions and advice. Thx to all.

There’s no question the Turbo S is an amazing car. 2019 will have all the latest tech in addition to the performance. But, it’s not as “special” as the 458. It depends what you want. I suspect the 991.2 Turbo is technically faster than the 458. But put the two side by side and see which one attracts more attention.

If you’re going to drive it everyday, go for the Porsche. If you want something with a “wow” factor in the eyes of the masses for the weekend, get the Ferrari.

I have a 991.1 Porsche 911s for my daily and a 458 Italia for the weekend. People appreciate the Porsche but take pictures and roll their windows down for the 458. It’s hard to compare to “a Ferrari” when it comes to standing out.

As a Porsche and Ferrari owner I agree with what rmk40 says. I've owned many P cars, but none has the 'special' feeling of my 458. The Ferrari is another solar system in comparison to the Porsche.
Overall, I would say Porsche is my favorite marque. Especially the air cooled cars.
But the Ferrari is so unique, so special and so stunning, that as an individual car, I'd never want to be without it.
The Ferrari 458 is the car that I can't believe I own, every time I get in and smell, feel and drive it.

No issues with reliability on 458.
Very different cars, so you have to decide. One is Swiss army car but boring. The other a real exotic but not as usable and carries a stigma.

The Porsche is not a swiss army car and not boring. I enjoyed mine immensely and it had no problem tracking down 458s and passing them at COTA. The 488 is likely the best of both.

Which is why I was considering doing the 458 as per my thread. I have yet to own a NA car. My ownership list is all turbo for the last 7 years. Before that it was Lexus LS4xx................

Buy the 458 then wait for the 488s to come even further down in the next year or so. They are just piling up right now. You can get a TTS anytime.

Since you can only have one car, the 2019 TTS is the way to go.

Agree if one car then the Porsche ; if you can have both for sure buy the 458[emoji847]; as everybody said the sensations in the Ferrari will put you in a different world

I actually don't think the comparison of these two vehicles is really equivalent. Two very different options. Maybe you are looking at cost of purchase to compare, but as far as driving experience, I think they are worlds apart. I think you have to ask yourself what your mission is with the next car. These vehicles provide two very different protocols of driving. As others have said, the Turbo is such a potential daily driver comfort car with loads of power. Nothing wrong with it at all in its own right. Solid and reliable. The 458 is such a different style and experience. I say that never owning one but I know that to be true. I would happily daily drive the Turbo (or the 458 to be honest if it was realistic for my environment--but still probably wouldn't do it), and even pop winters on it and enjoy the full year round. That's where you find one of the disparities, at least given your geography. I'm a big Porsche fan myself, but I'm not sure how to better answer it otherwise until we know exactly what you were looking for in terms of the comparison, or what your enjoyment objective is with the next car. Let us know!

I drive a 2017 Turbo S as my daily. There is no better daily car.

I had a 458 and was never totally in love with it.

Perhaps you should try an F12?

    Best of both worlds.

turbo does everything and here in the UK it blends in a bit better which is nice for when you're feeling shy and don't want attention.
yet the performance is absolutely insane

    Location dependent choice.
Here in Chicago, for a daily driver there is no contest, 991TTS is the only choice over 458.
Had one (until wrecked by a truck) and it worked perfectly in any weather.
Had the 458 back in 2010 and I always felt awkward and self conscious driving it, a Webster definition of a midlife crisis suffering 50year old.

So my current DD is an BMW X5M which I is great. I have no complaints. Best DD I've driven.
It's leased so it will be going back soon.

I'm debating leasing the TTS because I can drive it daily - but the question is - is it special? It is a car that you drive on the weekends
and feel good driving? Or does do you get 'used to it' since it is an unassuming Porsche.

Frankly - very few people aside from car enthusiasts really appreciate the Turbo S. Every layman appreciates the 458.

For those of you who get all that attention - is it annoying? Would you rather NOT have the attention?

I've always wanted one supercar in my stable. I love the TTS, all it realability, etc. - it just sure doesn't look like a supercar. It doesn't look like its price tag should reflect.

    Just a thought.

I think the turbo s is one hell of a car either way. No qualms about that. You can not go wrong with that. It is a beast of power and utility all in one. And it isn’t a shabby option on the road at all.

in socal at least, 458 isnt that special. There's so many of them, and if u get a red or yellow one, you are just another ferrari. I wouldnt be too bothered by "the amount of attention". I dont experience much attention, not anymore than a r8.

If you want a "supercar", definitely go for the 458, even tho the TTS will run laps around a 458 lol. The TTS is lacking in the looks and sound department, but it's an awesome all in one car that's reliable and outruns most supercars in acceleration and handling. If value is a consideration, expect to lose 40% of the value within 4 years on the TTS.

Exactly my situation. The Porsche is common as dirt, and it's my go-to if it's raining. The 458 is special.

Two completely different driving experiences as well. The 911 settles itself down if I'm just driving to work. The 458 is constantly begging "let's go" and is eager about every input. It asks for attention and makes you have fun while driving. The 911 is merely compliant.

The 991tts is always ready to have that accelerator stabbed hard. The difference in response between a 400hp flat 6 and a 560hp turbo charged flat 6 is huge and if you have tuned the car and added an exhaust it's even more. That is one of the nice things about the 991 TTS or TT, they have tons of mods available at reasonable cost and low risk, not so with Ferrari. You get what Ferrari makes which is really great but that's it, no more. I also don't think TTS is as common as it was in 2014 when they over-produced them.
