Sorry to go in here....but my observation is as well that you have a soft spot for Max as you tend to defend him when there is not much to defend. I do not think this is negative as I think we are all biased in one or the other way but don´t fool yourself...Max screwed up two race in a row and there is not much more to say about that...
There was a time when the driver made the difference, then there was a time the car did make the difference and this year (looking at the WDC standing) it looks like it makes a difference who got away unharmed the most in the races Max screw up. There are huge teams with huge budgets going for the ultimate goal of a WDC and WCC and at the end one single guy puts all these effords to nothing...
As I said in the other thread: the FIA is doinb nothing against him, Horner does nothing so the drivers (Lewis last race and Ricci this time) sort it out on their own...Maybe he will learn one day that he does not get away with it.

Again had this been Red Bull passing a Ferrari with 2 moves to defend........blame would be put forth by Red Bull. Both drivers had some play but Lauda has it right. Max moved and moved and has most of the blame. The team politically cannot do this as they picked him over Daniel given the contract extension. THey will never admit they were wrong LOL :)

Max double checked DR. Everything else was a consequence of that.

The problem is that technically, pretty much anything is allowed. That’s what many of us are complaining about. There was a “Verstappen rule” that Charlie announced would no longer be enforced...instead, instances would be dealt with on a case by case basis (because teams were complaining about too many referrals). The FIA have done a really bad job of teaching by example.

If it had been any driver other than his teammate who he had been aggressively scrapping with all race, I would like to think Max would have been penalized. See how unrealistic I am...?

But they where both punished. They where both at fault. There seems to be a lot of confusing here, for some reason people think I'm here blindly defending Verstappen, purely because I blame Ricciardo also. My stance from the very first minute has been that they where both guilty (or not guilty, whatever...same outcome!), a racing incident where both shared blame.

I'm frankly getting tired of this ****ing place where 1 driver receives so much hatred, he's blindly vilified by everyone here no matter what happens. Yes he's had his crashes, but for some reason over here it now means every single crash he's been in has been his fault.

For Chinas crash I gave him the full blame, seeing where he went wrong, yet for some reason that now means I'm a biased fanboy, despite me blaming him. For this incident I've been blaming him as much as Ric, yet I'm the biased fanboy purely because, me, like pretty much everyone else with a worthwhile opinion (eg ****ing racing drivers), also blame Ricciardo. Ricciardo is very much a loved person here (For good reasons) and Verstappen is hated here (for having collided with a Ferrari a few times, not always his fault, reasons). There is no reasonable debate to be had here with many.

Umm...simply scan the thread titles in this forum. There are quite a few examples...some of which you participate in quite often. Let’s see...in some of these threads, hair has been vilified...flip flops have been vilified...personal hobbies have been vilified...it goes on and on...

It’s the nature of the beast when a group of different people with different personalities and different perspectives assemble.

A “Max Sux” thread is inevitable.

A bit late, but man, freaking bad luck of Vettel and Ferrari. Leading all race, and comfortably, only to be taken out by an ill-timed safety car. But who had even worse luck was Bottas, who initially had the lead handed over, only to be taken out by a DNF. And as always, the best luck of all belonged to Hamilton, who inherited the top prize: the race win. He was the worst winner for both Ferrari and Vettel's chances of a championship win, but we'll see how the rest of the season fares. Luck hasn't been on their side for a long time, so they'll have to be flawless to try to overcome that. We'll see. Now back to Max vs DR. He he. It was good for Ferrari's constructor standings the double DNF, but who was at fault? I also blame both, so basically a racing incident. DNFing both cars was punishment enough for all involved IMO. Having said that, I think for those of us who blame both drivers, we need to step up to the plate and assign INDIVIDUAL blame amounting to 100%:D. In that case, Max was definitely over 50% IMO (I'd say 60/40), due to the double blocking move. So if we'd have to blame just 1 person on that particular incident, it'd be the driver with the majority of blame. In this case, Max. He's an aggressive driver, obviously, but there wasn't a need to be THAT aggressive with his teammate, when he's not defending the championship lead (far from that). And with a high possibility of exactly what happened: both cars DNFed. I'm sure RB had a serious talk to that regard with Max, and maybe even instituted future team orders. I wouldn't blame RB for that, even though I wouldn't like it. We'll see what transpires of that incident in future races.

Headline in today's Wall Street Journal says Ric and Max faced the entire staff at Red Bull to apologize. The web paper has a money wall so there's not much more detail.

So Brawn says there was nothing Ricciardo could have done as soon as Max crossed his line...
So if one wants to blame (at leat partly) Daniel for anything then it can only be for trying against his team mate without the guaranty of his pit wall that Max would play along...And as long as the pit wall does say they can race each other and they put no team orders out I do not see how one can blame him for anything ;)

But we are not talking about Max's spotty face here, and if he decided to dress like Lewis ridicule him as much as you can as he'd fully deserve it. Say what you will but for the majority of time regarding Lewis & racing, reasonable discussions have been (attempted) to be had.

Peter...that's what I've been saying all along, Max is also at fault. Not for a second have I said he is not at fault here (or China), yet somehow people keep trying to twist words that I seem to solely blame Ricciardo, which is quite simply untrue.

I support both Ric and Max. Both made an error. simple as that.

Yes, because it is neither his job nore is he in the position to take somebodies part in that story. I do not see fault in what Ricciardo did....
One time drivers are praised for being a racer and going for a gap and then someone is going in a car that is much faster at that moment and he is blamed...Remember Ricci was past Max already earlier in the race and Max played bumper car leaning against Max in the corner. What does Daniel have to do to get past Max in your opinion?

He will never do so...he will rather destroy his own race and this is one of his weaknesses. I do not think that Max will change because this is a question of mentality, you can not just switch that off. Remember last week when you were convinced that the China race might be a "moment of insight" for him? I doubted that and I doubt there will be one in near future unless Horner gives him one. Even the FIA can not as I think all that would happen is that he and his father would complain about unfair treatment...Horner is the only one to interfere but history (Seb) shows that he does nothing alike...

  19. I think both are at fault here to some degree. Matters not. The truth of the matter is they would have both crashed out much earlier in the race
in at least two corners if Ricciardo had not been the bigger man and given Max the extra space. Somehow he seems to get no credit for that.

The more races I watch this season, the more I'm convinced that Alonso and Ricciardo are at a complete different level.
They almost make everyone else look like amateurs by comparison...

Yep I fully agree. Horner & co need a serious chat with him. It remains to be seen if he has the ability to change. If he does not, he'll never win a championship unless he gets in a car that's class of the field and an obedient teammate.

Vettel was once known as a crash kid. Last year we saw some of that come back. Senna has had the same reputation and did the same thing...leave it up to the others to have an accident or not until they learn to just not even bother (I guess that's the aim). I hope Max turns his **** around and soon rather than late as I'm getting pretty annoyed. I want him back to his pre 2018 form. He had the right level of attack and defend then. Now he's been making some mistakes by himself and through red mist/stupidity has made some costly (to himself and others) bone headed moves.

Few if any top drivers would've moved over for their teammate in a title fight simply because they're slower. IMO Red Bull should've been clearer. The accident was going to happen.

Boo boo, I’m so sorry, I’m a ferrari fan on a ferrari board that doesn’t like the competitors from other teams. What a bloody shock, bet no one expected that ever when they started holding Grand Prix and having teams compete. Elton sucks, his driving is not the thing we don’t like, it’s his arrogance, stupidity, lack of common sense, and complete lack of personality that we find so easy to nail him for. If he wasn’t such an easy target, he wouldn’t get the flack.... Just take a look at pretty much any of his PR, act the tool and people treat him as such

Ferrari will never ever hire him, his constant whining would end the team... and don’t tell us they would, your hero confirmed personally recently that they have NEVER EVER APPROACHED HIM.

On his whining, I heard the Samaritans have asked him to stop calling as they keep having their phone advisors topping themselves after just ten minutes listening to his misery

    :) :)

    Bas,
It's obvious that you're biased and as Peter mentioned that ok.
The fact is Max double move on DR. Riccardo would had room on the left if max didn't moved in and at that speed once he moved back it's too late. This brake zone BS is just that BS. As I said before, Max, at this point in his racing career is desperate and reckless. But worst is he has no remorse for his actions.
The apologies he puts up are fake .... he goes about racing just as before like nothing has happened and the FIA will do nothing. (and they haven't )

In today's F1, it doesn't take too much skills to be fast ( in comparison to past cars and tech) max is good but overrated. Right now he is digging his own grave in F1 if he continues this path.

    Okay...

The "Elton" thread has plenty of criticism related to his driving and how he conducts himself before, during, and after races and race weekends.

We can't hold two standards. Max deserves the criticism he is receiving.

+1 no driver is perfect. Max started poorly and has an accident 1 or more every weekend. That is not at all a positive development. The TEAM are now responsible for the continued problems. They pay and employ him. He is crashing their cars. This is on Horner and Marko. Period.

This has got to be the dumbest ****ing argument on this ****ing forum. To make it clear, for the last ****ing time:

    I. Blamed. Verstappen.

I blamed Ricciardo, too, as he had his guilt in this. The FIA sees it the same way. Other racing drivers see it the same way.
