    Yup.

When racing was still racing. And nobody gave a d*mn about "entertainment value".

Thanks for sharing. It is very much appreciated.

    Thank you for posting this.

I hadn’t seen Nigel Mansell in a very long time.

Over the various years shown in those clips:

Active suspension, traction control, semi automatic gearboxes, seamless shifting gearboxes, the latest turbo technology - Not quite as pure as you're trying to make it out to be! ;)

The good ole days, when Jim Clark and Graham Hill flipped a coin to see who would win the Mexico Grand Prix.

Ah those were the days, when instead of racing each other it was just a traveling show for sport.

If you listen to Mansell's description of the specific car I think you'll find it had few if any of those exotic technologies. It was a car that had to be driven.

And this is how an engine is supposed to sound

In 14 years there have been zero improvements over these F1 cars. Changes? Yes. But does it get any better than this?

Personally, I prefer the V12s, but it was great to hear them contrasted with V8s and even V10s for a brief time.

I no longer watch F1. IMO it is no longer racing, or even a sport. It's just a made-for-TV "show". The regulations are aimed at reducing risk and maximizing profit, instead of fostering innovation and competition. Makes me sad.

    Great thread, BTW.
