MCLAREN 720S OR 488

Hold on a second, you never owned a Porsche or a Ferrari ? but have owned a 12C which Australia reduced its purchase price by $100,000 and had to reimburse those who bought it a trading time ? Are you for real ?
Were your cars new ? again given the prices you pay for cars it would have been just a credit card transaction.

R8 was new, 12C was a year old. I would usually buy a year old now. Don't really care about being the first, especially if I'm busy or it would be Winter. R8 was my first exotic purchase way back when I was like 21. Was my first exotic, so pretty excited at the time, but I just got older and don't find cars so "important" anymore to buy new. It would have to be a very rare car (expensive) such that there are never any for sale for me to consider buying new. All the normal exotics have a big enough market such that there are always appealing specs on the market, so no big deal not buying new.

Yup, cars are very cheap in America. Sucks that you have to buy in Australia. Costs you guys like double for the same thing, no?

I've driven Porsches and Ferraris. Didn't see what the fuss was about. I'm more into design these days since everything has become pretty irrelevant on the normal roads. Kinda sucks that I grew up at the point in which cars were too good to matter what you buy.

 

Honestly I don't know which is the funnier - you now admitting to never owning a Ferrari in your entire life or, Gh21631, Dustman etc relying upon you for props over each others' postings under the cloak of being equal lovers of all brands. Hilarious!!

I could understand the postings if you were all over on a Mac forum beating one another off, but over here on Ferrari chat? Looks like blatant trolling IMHO!

 

Why do you need to own a Ferrari to have an opinion on them? Isn't testing them and looking at them enough to know if you want/like one or not?

 

So the point of your posting opinions here on Ferrari chat is? I mean your credibility isn't exactly in great shape given your (many) preposterous admissions here. And I'm not saying for you to leave as I genuinely feel you provide value in the form of comedy however, surely there must come a point to where you realize you are wasting your time trying to put Ferrari owners off their own cars. I mean near 3500 posts about nothing other than pure drivel and clear bias toward any other brand? Maybe Seinfeld should have had you on his show...

 

I mean, I like exotic car design. I don't like every brands offerings at every time. I go to forums that post stuff related to all sorts of exotics. Why would I be exclusive to one brand? The brands are meaningless to me and they all excel at different things. I liked the 360CS, Enzo, F430 ere of Ferraris. The recent ones not so much and prefer the offerings of other brands.

The market for exotics is massively bigger than it used to be. Even Lexus makes supercars. I'm sure one day Ferrari will make another car I like. 488 Pista front end doesn't look so wanna-be F1 car anymore, and I like it, but eh, it took them 8 years to give the 458/488 a good front end and now it's too late and the interior is stale to me. It will be replaced with the new car in a year anyway, so no way I'd consider this anyway.

Crossing my fingers that the true next-gen/platform is a big change from this 458/488 stuff. Hope it's a hybrid too.

 

Then surely there is more value in pushing your respective barrows on the respective car forums?

Doesn't make any sense why you or anyone would take the time out to opine personal dislikes with Ferrari on a Ferrari chat forum whilst at the same time expressing favor for other brands (or your brand of choice) when you could quite easily take that opinion to the respective Brand forum where it would be better received. What you are currently doing is trolling.....there is no other way of looking at it.

Why are you so emotionally attached to this? It's not trolling to have an opinion. Here's how you feel about other Ferrari owners who don't like your car:

Go on, tell all those Speciale owners how sad they really are for driving a more desirable car than your 488. Somehow a 2015 Speciale is worth more than a 2018 488 Spider...

Or maybe the reality is that people genuinely just don't care for the 488 exhaust sound. Maybe, just maybe. I know it's like 1 in a zillion, but maybe, just maybe, they don't want your car. Could it be true?

Strangely your 488 has never been the fastest at anything, so I think your logic is wrong...

 

Nice try but the context was about sound critique, not the entire car. Also, a Ferrari owner chatting on a Ferrari chat forum about Ferrari's is quite normal.

Nice try about what? You're claiming that people who don't like the 488 exhaust sound are just secretly jealous of you and that's the only reason they don't like it.

Who said the entire car is bad? Rear end of the 488 is nice (minus the dumb F1 light thing). Performance is not the pinnacle of super cars, but it's still very good. Pista front end is 10x better than the 458 and 488, and they improved the side intakes by removing the dumb slats in the middle of them.

However, the 488 is still a hackjob turbo design as evidence by the less-than-elegant side intake solution, but hey, that's what the business model demanded given that they were kind of forced to play their turbo hand early due to the competition.

I think they should have stayed with NA, fell behind a bit in performance, then and moved to hybrid + NA. Lamborghini has no problem sticking with NA.

 

If I go buy an F40 tomorrow will you respect my opinion on the 458? Does owning some random Ferrari somehow make opinions more valid on all other Ferraris?

Here, I'll give you my 458/488 review, even though I don't own an F40.

1. Felt slow because the McLaren was just so much quicker. Not a bad thing per se. Slightly more usable because it didn't get to such a high speed so quickly.
2. I don't like the front of the 458 at all.
3. The 458 didn't sound anywhere near as good inside the car as it did when they would drive by me in the city. They sound great from the outside in the city. I've had loud car like my modded R8 and they get tiresome.
4. The car kept getting loud at 3K-ish RPM. It was like an on-off switch. It was dumb. Just give me one sound all the time. If I want quieter, I'll drive in 7th.
5. I don't like the front end of the 488 or the side intakes, and the interior is nearly identical to the 458.
6. Because of number 5, I have had 0 interest in every driving the 488. I don't like the design, thus I don't want it. Design is the most important thing for me in modern cars.

 

My man- you can have any opinion you want. No one cares.

But to have such strong opinions, with no ownership of any cars of note, doesnt make much sense to me.

You hate Ferrari’s, aren’t into exotics, don’t own anything worthy of discussion yet you spout so much hate on Ferrari’s on a Ferrari forum all based on your ownership of an r8 and a used 12c???

I have two good friends that own 720s and love them. I have friends with Porsche’s, Aston’s, lambos, Ferrari’s- we all go out and enjoy and respect each other vehicles. We have fun in the camaraderie of the vehicles. Not once has anyone said - Man your car sucks because of your side intakes.

And yet you’ve never even driven a 488 cause you don’t like the side intakes but you spout off opinions like you are a writer for Road and Track??

I guess if you don’t have any other hobbies, spending time here is as good of a way to kill time but dang son.....you need a new hobby.

As a suggestion have your mother or father check over what you write before you post it. And, if it's to do with Ferrari hate best go post it up on your favorite Audi or Mac forum (or wherever else you're also wasting your time) because at least there you won't draw so much attention to your ridiculous rantings.

I've owned more Ferraris than than you I bet. You still can't get over your biased self. By the end of this year I'll have ordered two more. I still don't want a 488, certainly not over a 720.

None of us have a problem with each others choices as we are all very good mates with the same interest and happy with our own lots whereas OTOH you are compelled to create some form of a smokescreen on a Ferrari forum over how much better you think your 720 is over others who own Ferrari's, Porsches and anything else you can throw **** at. Ridiculous. If you were truly so happy with your 720 there would be no need to do that.
