Noone has admitted that he does not own a car nor does he like driving a car. Therefore his opinions are essentially worthless. He is like a poster on a wine forum who doesnt't drink but offers his comments about which wine is superior to others. Noone loves porn but never has sex.
I think you're on the money there. I suspect whilst he is fantasizing on riding in an electrically propelled self drive dead silent bus there are all kind of wild weird thoughts running through his mind. I'm not a betting man but I'd place money on him in never owning a car of any sort actually. And then the stories of him being an exotic car tester is icing on the cake. I mean can you imagine a dealer throwing a guy the set of keys for a Ferrari or new 720 for a solo test drive who rolls in on a pushbike?
I mean you gotta call it the way it is. No point beating around the bush. Some of these guys think us Aussies came down in the last rain shower.
As a current Ferrari owner and long time Ferrari lover I’m not in love with their current offerings. I’d take a Huracan P/Aventador over anything Ferrari makes. The 720S and 488 aren’t in the same league in my opinion. I’d take a new Bentley Continental and certainly a 570 GT over the Portofino. The competition has stepped up and overtaken Ferrari at the moment in my opinion.
LOL. Where did I say the 488 sucks? I said it's not good looking. You respect each other's cars? What a truly bizarre thing to say. It's just a freaking car, dude. You cut a check for it, you didn't contribute anything at all to it. Now you want it to be respected? Based on what? It's like when people say "nice car!". Um, thanks, I guess. I mean, I didn't design it or anything, but sure, thanks.
LOL. Yeah, his 720S is a credit card transaction for you. Please post your 700K AUD credit card transactions, big shot. BTW, what is the title of this thread? Do you even realize that someone asked "720S or 488?" Are you even aware you're telling people to stop talking about McLarens and "hating" on a 488 in a thread that is 720S vs 488? LOL
Many people don't realize this. It's not 200 anymore. Ferrari isn't the only game in town. It's like they're shocked that people like other exotics now that every brand on Earth is making them. Ferrari used to be the cream of the crop in pretty much all respects, but now the market has changed, and the competition is fierce. No free passes.
Does it bother you that I can just stop by my dealer and test a car whereas you need to pull up in a Ferrari? Besides, if the dealer is in downtown, I'm probably just walking anyway. You do you have legs, don't you? You do, um, walk places, right? Does Australia not have big cities?

Interesting, although I cannot really read German. The 720S is faster around Hockenheim, but had the GT2RS the tricky tyres it's supposed to eventually get? I think they have been made available only for the Nurburgring lap timing, but hopefully they should become available on customers cars someday... With a lot more power, the Mc is expected to be faster on the straights, but here it seems to also outperform the GT2RS in the corners. It will also be interesting to have more track comparisons, since cars may have different performances on different tracks (there are some reasons why race cars get specific settings for each track). I also wonder how the Mc will fare against a Pista.
Wider tires, stickier tires, giant fixed win Power is quite similar, no? Supposedly the Ring time for the 2RS was set on Cup2, and only the GT3 RS was on Cup2 R, so if that's the case, the tires on the 2RS are the same as the ones used for the Ring time. I think it's safe to say though that Porsche set up their car perfectly for a Ring test. I doubt they just pulled one off the line and sent it to the Ring. They probably set up the suspension and everything for perfection at the Ring and gave it to pro/factory driver. McLaren doesn't usually do extensive factory lap times, so what they test are just the press cars that get sent around. I think the reality here is that the 720S is a ground-up $300K super car and the GT2 RS is a 911 with a bunch of Porsche Motorsport mods. There is a reason the 918 is not based on a 911. The Porsche GT3 cars will also be compromised because they are based on regular 911s. They're still awesome performers and more than anyone needs, but you need clean sheet designs and purpose built platforms if you want to make the best car. The new RSR is a mid-engine now too, no?
Now he is commenting on the fact that the gt3 are compromised because they are based on regular 911. He owns one. I mean he has driven one. I mean he saw one in a parking lot one day
So you think the 911 platform is the ideal platform for a supercar? You should have told Porsche that before they built the 918 or moved the RSR to mid-engine. There's a reason that the 2RS has a giant fixed wing, wider tires, stickier tires, and will never come with an open the top while still being slower -- it's because it's based on the 911 platform.
I’ll tell you what, when you own a Porsche GT car, or have spent any significant time in one, then I’d be happy to discuss the topic of the 911 platform. Till then, I’d rather not waste my time with you.
I cant imagine the Pista will be near the 720s. Nor does it have to be. Pista looks AMAZING and is a Ferrari which arguably has more cache and star power than Mc does globally. Taking nothing away from the 720 which is a beast. My dealer has offered to lend me one for 24hrs but I havent found the time yet. Tough call if you want mostly a track beast exotic (note I included "exotic" so no Miata's or tuned Camaro comments) you have Performante and 720.
Any idea why Porsche would make the 2RS require water injection? Why can't they just keep it cool normally like the 720S or Pista?
I dont work for Porsche so you might want to ask the engineers why they did what they did. Question for you? Do you own or have ever owned a GT2 RS? Do you own or have ever owned a Gt3 RS? Do you own or have ever owned a GT3? Lets make this simple.... Do you own or have ever own any variation of a Porsche 911? Have you spent any significant time driving any variation of a Porsche 911?
No, I've tested 911s and not too long ago tested a .1 GT3 to see what all the fuss was about. Porsche PDK is fantastic. Best I've ever experienced as far as autos/DCT go. I see the appeal in the car at the price point, but it's just not for me. Again, do I need to own every car to have an opinion about it based on what kind of evidence exists in reviews and tests? Here's another couple questions: Why does the Porsche need a giant fixed wings, sticky tires, wider tires, and an aggressive set up to compete with a daily driver McLaren? Why does the GT2 RS weigh more the than 720s? I'll just answer these for you. It's because they don't design the GT cars and figure out how to make them cheaper and more pedestrian. On the contrary, McLaren and Ferrari design $300K exotics and find ways to make them a little bit more track oriented. That's the difference. That's why the GT cars are compromised. That's why the GT2 RS uses water injection.
I mean if you knew the answer to why the GT2 uses water injection, why did you ask me? Thats a bit bizarre dont you think? And to answer your question about "do I need to own every car to have an opinion about it based on what kind of evidence exists in reviews and tests?" No - you don't need to actually own the cars to have an opinion about them. You have repeatedly proven that over and over again on this thread. The most opinionated individual that neither owns or drives the cars that he has opinions about. So yes, you are proof positive that one can have strong opinions on a vehicle even when they dont have a clue what they are talking about.
