308 - 6 cylinder??? even the name says it: 3 ltr and 8 cylinder
308 GT4 is and never was a fiat
porsche 914/4 as a 1,7 and 2 ltr 4 cyl. is a VW, yes, but the 914/6 or even the 916 is a real porsche, just look at the wheels ( 5 holes and not 4 like VW, totally better brakes and a porsche 6 cylinder engine )

    Brain farts...

yes 308 is an 8 cylinder... Point I was trying to make was that folks complained it wont go up in value as its slow-ish/not a 12 cylinder...

308gt4 was labeled Dino first wasn't it? Designed by bertone and described as too anglular...not pinanfarina... Somehow Fiat landed in my mind... :)

A base 914 1.7 is 10-15k$ right now in nice shape. That's multiples of what it cost new. The ones with Porsche engines, are WAY MORE than that...

So you've looked at the supply side....but consider the demand side. There are WAY more Porsche guys than Ferrari guys.....This goes back to the discussions about the Ford GT of a decade ago, yeah 4,500 is a lot of cars until you consider the number of Ford buyers.

At least you don't own a Lamborghini Jalpa....only 500 ever made, still less than $100k.

I have always found that Porsche guys are Ferrari guys.... they just can't afford it.

I started with porsches... they are cheaper. Then got the Ferrari. If I had enough money, I would be a lambo-guy too...

A Ferrari testarossa is a mind boggling value at 100k or so.

Its 12 cylinders, a FERRARI, a poster car. The interior took 3-5 cow hides from what I vaguely remember, to cover. It was hand made.

I thought a 100k supercar in the 1980's was all the money in the world. My god, that was the same as my folks suburbia house!!!

Now, super cars cost 1-5 million. 5-25 x what the average house in the USA costs. Its ludicrous.

100k for a testarossa, is peanuts. Its near free. Its less than tires for a Bugatti...

    The testarossa is incredibly undervalued...

Even the modest Jalpa... is selling for twice MSRP as new...

Ever see those old ads in Hemmings? Where some guy was selling a 250gto for $5k in the 1970's. No one wanted one. It was listed right next to the Cobra, in pieces. And the 356 speedster that some dude wanted to trade in on a chevy.

In the late 1990's was at a Porsche dealer and got a 996. It was next to a 73 911s... Bought the 996.

Early in medical school some guy was selling a countach for 45k. Needed love. I bought a caddy DeVille, needed a driver. Black, with red leather.

    No one wanted those cars...

    Woulda-coulda-shoulda

    LOL, Fanboy much?

There are many Porschephiles that have no desire to own an Italian car....and shock, every last one of them could buy a Ferrari at some price point.

The guys writing checks right now disagree.

If they didn't make so damn many of them, you could get a few people together and corner the market.

    I'm with bpu

As a kid and growing up I had all kinds of Porsches....many 911's, 928's s4's 911 turbo, 944, 944s 944 turbo....there weren't much back then. Yet, a Ferrari was always an elusive goal and a Lamborghini was just a fantasy lol

I was at Lamborghini Sarasota visiting my clutch in progress and they were all excited to show me some GTS R3 or something like that. $219k....I laughed...it's just a Porsche, nothing special. I guess they figured that they can charge as much as a Ferrari and people will still buy it.

...but not back in the mid 90's

While I feel you on this....the marketplace says otherwise. As of this moment, the market does not place a premium on the original Testarossa.

Maybe someday but there are many investments that will outperform rising values. So, I enjoy the car and consider it a plaything. That's why I don't put too much stock into it's valuation...unless I want to get in or get out.

German cars aren't for everybody, the same as Italian cars aren't. A 993 Turbo is high on my list for purchase....would look great next to the Diablo in the garage.....wait, or is it on the list because I can't afford a Ferrari....LOL

I owned a black/black '97 993 Turbo with hardback sport seats for 6 years. FANTASTIC car! Bought it in '09 for $58K....sold it mid '15 for $135K :)

Certainly not as exotic looking as a TR but a MUCH better sports car!!!

Geez..I struck a nerve with the cement truck comment. I didn't mean it that way. On the open road they are wonderful. But around town ( where most are driven) they are not what you would call light on their feet. I should have used a different term.

Cement truck is a term we use around the shop when talking about heavy to steer cars, it' not meant as a bash against the car. Sorry..

I also own a 88 911 turbo. And I agree, the 911 turbo is way more fun to drive...

Off topic slightly but the BBi and BB are quicker and much more agile, lighter in feel because its not plump like the Testarossa, the suspension is more compliant on the boxer as well. Seating position for someone over 5'5" is much better in the boxer too. Lets not get into the mouse seat belts......Top end speed and visual outrageousness the Testarossa wins hands down and I would love to own another one (sold my 89) but the only Ferrari Ive ever maxed out is one of my ex 308's so top speed is moot.

Same thing for the red one which used to be 130k.
    Both have services- no sales.
I don’t disagree they will go up eventually but right now the market is sooooooft like butter. These are facts.

No its not& i am sure they will go up but i am bringing facts of sales.
People may or may not like it. Its like telling me lebron james is better than Michael jordan. I absolutely don’t agree with it but some stats are proving otherwise;)

Damn...I still got this notification lol

There's nothing new here....just repeating the same old stats.

It's like someone complaining that the market is down and how they have a huge loss on their portfolio. Ok....we get it, Testarossa prices are soft...as is the whole exotic market.

A deal fell through on a Aventador yesterday because the spread between my Murcielago + cash was more than I wanted. This dealership services my Ferrari and it was no harm no foul.

We got on to the conversation about the market being soft in a robust economy. Too much damn supply from Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren and Porsche. The manufacturers are pumping out so much product, the used market can't absorb it.

I'm waiting on the crossover point to buy where while the Murcielago is going down....the Aventador is going down faster.

    But....everything is flat.

Yes, definitely a buyer now. I test drove a 2014 Roadster which was so soft, I came away disappointed.
I then test drove a 2012 coupe which has the harder shifting and suspension. That one was way more my style...hardcore!
So, it looks like I can only buy a 2013 Aventador Roadster as it is the only Roadster year that has the hard shifting.

But, our conversation was that all exotics markets were soft. He has everything from Testarossas, 512bbi, scuds, 430's, 458's etc. It's not just the Testarossa.
