I think you've become so focussed on pointing out that he's a troll, that you're overlooking when he makes perfectly good sense.
Possibly. But I figure the manner in which they are made doesn't warrant recognition due to such a high level of drivel contamination. Also, his rare worthy points tend to automatically become negated by the incredibly vast majority of nonsensical postings. So, I figure to give recognition would only encourage even further drivel which would then drown out those rare good points he did make. It's kinda like a "lose" "lose" situation regrettably.
Oh man, did I screw up, thanks for correcting me. I dont know how I thought the 720 and 488 were normally aspirated.
FYI, Porsche went with a Mid engine on the RSR to accommodate the larger diffuser which the GTE series has allowed. I think you need to stop waisting everyone time on this thread and go play with your Subaru BRZ, because it seems you have not driven any other cars.
For us Europeans in the German speaking region, it is surprising if a German magazine does not raise the Porsche 911 by at least one class above all other test candidates. Therefore, this article of this well-known magazine has a certain significance. And it shows that with respect to the two standard road versions tested, the McLaren can provide the stronger facts. But that should not be the end of the world right?
Valid point recaruser keeping in mind us poor non German speaking Aussies living down here in the penal colonies don't automatically know exactly how it works amongst the journos up your way! Anyway, looking at the track data 720 should have come home faster than just one second so something isn't right there imho! Plus we all know with magazines not everything is as it seems. I think someone wrote how they will rave on about one car and in the next mag they are laying the axe into it and putting something else on their pedestal. 2Rs with it's 26.7 second lap time lead over 720 on the ring still says to me that even if 720 had a highly practiced race driver behind the wheel with same rubber there is only so much time that could be clawed back to equal or best the 2rs. The 2rs is one amazing feat.
You and I were not present in both tests, right? Why should one be "more correct" than the other? Allora; something is obviously, we're talking about two ingenious cars here. One will probably continue to develop, the other probably has reached its zenith. Howsoever, if I had the money, I would buy both.
Who knows - still say 1 sec is not much for any one to gloat over when you compare technologies plus the gt2 car will prove the more exciting to drive in a visceral sense. And that is just one reason why I would buy a Gt2 over a 720. I would however agree 2rs's current engine has been eeked out to its max at 700hp with nowhere to go from there. I'm somewhat disappointed Porsche didn't turbocharge the new 4.0 engine and use that instead given the talk the next series will be hybrid leaving this gt2 series as the last of an era. Upside should mean price stability. 720 otoh will be anyone's guess insofar as where that winds up.
Opinions on which car to buy without personal driving experience is for me virtually worthless. I will let my accountant deal with rates of depreciation per model.
They also did it because rear engine wore out the tires too quickly and it improved weight distribution. Here is the quote from the Walliser directly:
Very easy to see where the RS lap comes from. It has much more aero, far wider tyres - especially at the all-important front end - and now similar power to the Mac. It is a car designed for fast track laps and in the hands of a driver who understands how to drive a rear engined car, it will be lightning quick. It’s the physics text book not the car magazine that will tell you that. 720 is trying to do a different thing. Its aero is ‘hidden’ like the Pista and it is not really a track-oriented version. The RS doesn’t need to explain itself. It’s very quick because of simple things like more downforce, wider tyres, grippier compound and easily enough power. Given this is a product of the excellent Porsche engineering team, you just have to add up the elements.
Given that the 720 was on Corsas and the 2RS on Cup 2s, the McLaren made mince meat of the Porsche. And this comes from a Macca hater, due to the F1 rivalry with my beloved Ferrari!!! It is to be expected though, the 911 has a flawed layout. Porsche know that and make their hypercars mid-engined.
Right, I’m so sick of the depreciation talk. Find a new damn hobby if you don’t like your expensive car losing value.
I am not sure how this turned into a GT2 RS vs 720S debate..... Nevertheless, this link may help those with some real data. http://fastestlaps.com/comparisons/11m3m7shl0vv Clearly the Macca is fastest in a straight line however on track the GT2 RS has its number. Which asks the question...... If you could only have one which would it be? In my mind the 720s would be the best all rounder, it would be able to destroy mega miles in Europe touring and would be the easiest to live with everyday. Where as the GT2 RS would be the more fun track weapon, emotionally it would pull more heart strings and will for sure hold its value far greater. The 911 remains a formidable adversary even though the engine is not mounted in the optimal position - the same could also be said for many front mounted cars. Mid mount is the best position - everyone knows this. Btw. Owning up to be a Mac hater doesn't take much so one must exercise great caution when posting on Fchat. So, I have devised a simple chart for all to follow: 1.Prefer to own/drive a Ferrari over Mac = Big time Mac Hater. Solution = Best to keep your mouth shut about that. 2.Express any concern whatsoever over Macs resale = Mac Hater who shouldn't be in any sportscar/supercar regardless of past/future or potential losses. 3.Question the Macs design as being anything other than drop dead gorgeous = Mac Hater 100% - you're gone for sure!! 4.Question the visceral experience as being somewhat benign in comparison to anything else on the market= Mac Hater - gone! Warning: If by chance you post more than one of the 4 above criteria during any given post - regardless of being on a dedicated Ferrari Chat forum - you WILL be hunted down, labelled, ridiculed and bulldozed into a corner....then steamrolled into the bitumen.
