I think Ferrari have a set up issue. Mercedes were reported by AMUS to be like this on Spain in pre season testing which shows here in this gp. That I can believe but having Ferrari have such bad tire wear that is worse than even Merc is something else all together when they shown to do well on the tyre in races like Bahrain and China is something else. They may have to readjust the car to work it better.

Also Mark and Arrivabene should be taken mindfully and not flat out believeable. Mark I think should not be thought of as a source as that doesn't have the necessary secondary sources to back it up fully. I also believe we should give same thought with Arrivabene. Believe me I like to believe most of us that he is trusted for he is in our fav team and their boss. Though he may tell that to please as he is there to protect the team and the brand so he may not fully tell. I very much so understand what he is doing. Though with the personal he has keeps calling questionable decisions I think that is fully understood.

Mark is paid to write by whoever holds the chequebook..... if you don’t realise that he has been writing his article sitting in the Mercedes pit with a glass of schnapps and plateful of strudel then you are mistaken. Why would any of us be inclined to believe something written after watching Mercedes dominate a race the very first running of the old tyres, rather than the initial reports by Mercedes and Pirelli themselves, strangely lost and hidden from the media, where it is EXPRESSLY written that the tyre change was made due to the request of Mercedes (no other team mentioned there, would be no reason they aren’t if they had been involved) and Pirelli had agreed - a violation of the 2018 regulations in itself as it needs unanimous acceptance of all ten teams just like anything else unless it’s a safety issue, which it clearly wasn’t, or the tyres would have been exploding everywhere at the first four races. Mark, go write some more fairy stories and enjoy Mercedes euros, your articles are 80% wrong at the best of times

Well, after Day 1 of testing with the old tyres and new tyres it seems Ferrari has more homework to do. Vettel said Ferrari would have been worse off on the older tyres had they used them in the Spanish GP.

Look at the thread "Summer F1 Testing - Catalunya"

Nice post. I will not be drawn by conspiracy. Ferrari have a good package overall but weakness is apparent but solvable. Strategy is a large issue to correspond as well.

Perhaps (but I doubt it) this will make people realize that the move by Pirelli was for the greater good based on loads of data and experience.

Well, I guess all the other teams should chip in to help cover that check, then...Ferrari would have performed even worse, otherwise.

    One more thing to add

Btw Vettel said that the car was exactly the same like on Sunday. No changes or updates.....

Saying Ferrari’s performance was not affected for the negative by the tire change doesn’t change the fact that Mercedes performance was affected for the positive by the tire change. That’s why they requested.

Doesn’t change the fact that the tyres were changed upon the request of Mercedes, whose performance were affected in the same manner as if they were given an extra 50bhp in engine performance... it’s still cheating, regardless of the tyres requiring more or less stops to cope with the track

Or that’s the only smart thing he can say now to avoid completely alienate Pirelli and get them even closer to Merc.

And whose cars now run Pirelli OEMs on even the most sedate of their range? Ermmmmm not BMW, not Ford, or any Japanese manufacturers......... that’s right, you got there before me, GLAs and C classes now run Pirelli’s as standard equipment.... yep, CLAs running on ‘P-Zeros’ and the like........ awwwwwwww, surely there’s no correlation in this and the recent cheating.... oh, don’t forget secret testing too, who was that now colluding with Pirelli - that’s right, Mercedes again...mmmmmmmmm. Doesn’t take much working out does it, even for the most hardcore Mercedes and elton fanboys

And don’t let’s get caught up in whether ferrari would have done better or worse on the 2018 tyres, the fact is, the tyres got changed at the request of Mercedes, not ten teams, nor even two, and on the replacement tyres, Mercedes got a jump in performance of 1second a lap or more, that’s like giving them 50bhp more, or being able to brake 50 yards later and hit the accelerator the same every corner, every lap.... the 2018 tyres would have meant more pitstops, that’s all, but the tyres used actually meant less wear, but a lot less performance compared to the 2018 spec.

Most sources quote two RB and Merc in preseason. So Ferrari didn't have the car suitable for that circuit.

The press release quoted Just Mercedes requesting help from Pirelli. It’s only later Pirelli have tried to include more. Marko came out today and accused Pirelli of cheating too!

It’s here in the threads somewhere, I think jgonsalez posted it, and I think I saw it referenced earlier, but I haven’t got time to go searching mate. Maybein the pre Baku thread?, or pre-China?
