Very wishful asking price. Given recent auction results and a downward market, he'll be lucky to get $495k for it. No VIN number, though I doubt it's a scammer. Could it be SN 001976? https://www.ebay.com/itm/1975-Lancia-Stratos-HF-Stradale/253623669070?hash=item3b0d26114e:g:~roAAOSwn8pa-hm7
495k definitely doable. The right car could get well into the 500s but 795k would be a world record... The market being down is too broad a statement. Ferraris are probably still down since the peak in 2014 but other brands have appreciated. I know that the cars I have been interested have sadly nor come down in price...
Oh, I agree. I should have said, vintage-Italian is down, because I don't pay much attention to anything else. Sheehan and the Ferrari Market Letter are somewhat realistic. I find the dealers are stuck in 2014 and not lowering prices, which is likely your conundrum. However, if someone wants to move a car in a private sale they should consider reality, otherwise auction it. This Ebay Stratos is well presented. The seat color is wrong. Otherwise, it looks to be a well restored Stradale. I presume the "mark specialist" that restored it is in Italy, as there are no dedicated Lancia Stratos specialists in the States. Nebulous Ebay ads do not do this guy any service. His best bet is to list it on Classic Driver.
It's a well known fake. Chassis 305 has been clearly recorded as scrapped. Don't even get me started...
Purpose built Lancias are definitely not down. If anything they have gained momentum in the last few years. This looks like a nice car - very well restored cars that have not been run into a tree in a previous life are going for €600k, so this price is just a tad optimistic today.
A nicely done stradale that was converted to GR4 spec and no racing history sold for 700k euro a year or so ago. Having all the correct GR4 parts is no small feat.
That Stradale on Classic Driver ain't a real Lancia. It was assembled (poorly from what I've been told) by the Jolly Club a couple of years after Lancia ceased production. It doesn't even have a Lancia serial number...
