Well, I need another hoist at the shop. You can never have enough bloody hoists. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Good, well sorted Ferrari's just aren't sold on Gumtree. The best cars are sold by word of mouth. That said there are some really good Mondial 3.2's around if you look, for example in late 2016 #78034 was for sale on Carsales for 6 months, the asking price was 80K. This car was in great condition, basically as new, original and complete. It is a multiple conorso entrant, has been first in class at 7 FCA National Rallies and 2nd in class 1994 Ferrari Club of America National Meet in Monterey California ( yes, the car was shipped to the US to enter the event).
Yes. And if one of the better Mondial 3.2's around took ages to sell at an ask of 80K, a Mondial 8 (UK import with a color change and non original wheel etc ) is hardly a deal at 54K. If for some reason you wanted a Mondial an ad in HorsePower or Carsales ( not Gumtree) would provide plenty of choice.
That's true Mike, but it' also part of the problem for people trying to enter Ferrari world - they just have to deal with what's on the outside, they never get to hear about the privately-traded goodies. and unfortunely sites like this in some ways DON'T help... any poor soul who might have been interested in the Mondi you mentioned and ventured into Aussie Fchat to get advice probably would hve been met with a wall of ' Mondi are cheap boring crap, wait till you can afford a...' type comments. Not by all, but by a loud chorus.
The discussion was about a specifc Mondi 8 on gumtree that Simon had pointed out. Greg (correctly) picked some faults and I had recent sales history on the car from a previous ad which confirmed the history and repaint. Contrary to your view I'm sure it would help a prospective buyer making a decsion about that car. No-one said anything about "Mondi are cheap boring crap, wait till you can afford one". I said you are better off buying a car in better condition as it will be cheaper in the long run. With some of the best Mondi 3.2's advertised with an ask of 80k, there is no way you can bring a car with needs up to that standard for a similar total price. I would have thought that after the experience with your car you would agree with that - you posted that you had spent 60% of the purchase price on your car getting it sorted after you bought it.
Here's one.. https://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Ferrari-Mondial-1988/SSE-AD-5422927/?Cr=14 ......and here's another https://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/details/Ferrari-Mondial-1986/OAG-AD-15381996/?Cr=19 Tear 'em apart...
Both look unmolested and tidy. A good basis for a good car. I Love Mondials but prefer the lines of the coupe
Sorry Mike, I think you've taken me the wrong way - I don't disagree with anything said about the Gumtree car, and yes a prospective buyer would benefit from those comments. The 'boring crap' comments might not appear in this particular thread, but you can't deny they're regularly aired in certain circles. I also agree that you should buy the best car possible, and trying to turn an orphan into a concorso car is never going to work. BUT sometimes there's no choice - in my case for instance I had the budget available for a 'good' car but none were available in Australia (I just missed out on one - remember I wanted a carbed GTS you know how few there are in Aus). I bought what I could get, spent the balance of the budget knowing it would never make it a 'good' car, but guess what? I'm still enjoying it after 16 years...and how many of the 'garage queen, perfect PPI' cars have ended in tears? If there are better cars available, of course buy the best avaialable; just sometimes there is no choice.
WOW! Yesterday I would have bet a bucketload that you'd never find 2 good Mondi advertised at the same time in Aus, let alone 2 cabriolet... just goes to show me !
Both look noice, the 1986 Gosford car seems to be the better deal . Interestingly I can only find "c" vin Monidal Cabriolet's in Australia which makes me wonder if any where ever sold new here. The Gosford car was advertised for the same price in November 2017, they took it off the market and are trying again now. Considering the low mileage and appearance I'm surprised it didn't sell in summer.
