Nothing wrong with an 85. There are improvements in the 86.5 cars over the 85, but you will pay a premium for them. Automatic, is a matter of taste, but I prefer the 5 speed for many reasons. Plenty of buyers guides written on the 928 if you google search.

I had a 85 manual with 6k miles that was like a museum piece. Loved the nostalgia, but found it to be pretty boring. The timing belt light constantly came on despite having proper belt change which was always disconcerting. I’m the end, having one of the nicest on the planet that was only valued due to its extreme low mileage made me feel like I couldn’t drive it. Sold it and a 308 to buy a CS.

It really drives and sounds like a USA muscle carin my opinion . If you buy one, get the Porken chips which really wake up the car.

I know that feeling ! I now only acquire well-used yet well-maintained cars. Not into the trailer to shows thing. These cars are not made of chocolate. Congrats on the CS.

Its a great car.... The 1986.5 S is just S4 brakes and exhaust I believe. Not a huge difference between the two. Timing belts are a must, so no proof its been changed, expect to do it..............

Manual 1985 928s are great GT cars, especially the Euro version, which is highly regarded in the 928 community. The Euro had ABS brakes (not available until 1986 on US models), 30 or more horsepower, triple leather and other goodies. If the OP might be interested in a 85 Euro manual, I have a red/tan 928S that will soon be put on the market due to too many cars and not enough garage space. The exhaust note is intoxicating, even more so than my Ferrari or Aston. We imported the car from the factory in 1985, federalized it at our dealership, sold it to a customer and then bought it back in 1990. It has been in my personal stable ever since. The car has every conceivable option and then some (like built in radar, BBS wheels, etc.), and all service records dating from day one. It will be posted in the classified section in a few weeks.

Yes, yes, and 100 times yes. I actually liked the '78-'82 non [rear] spoiler even better. The 1987 928 S4 may be a "better" car. But it wasn't a better looking one.

    IMHO
