Why does his status as the reigning champion have anything to do with disliking him? Do we have to like every championship holder or team? No one is saying that Lewis is not a great driver, we’re just saying that OTHER than that he is a jackass!
My argument has always been in agreement with Ross Brawn's, that is Hamilton will go down as one of the all time great f1 drivers along side the obvious ones. I never spent time on weather people like him, i dont care. Vettel totally ignored me and my wife as he walked out of a hotel one night. I can find something to hate about every driver. Clearly Ham has many diehard fans, so your judgement on him will not affect his legacy at all.

On a bit more serious note, I am perplexed that Lewis has not signed a new contract with Mercedes. I don’t really believe that he has any other team to really use as leverage in negotiations and I’m sure Mercedes wants him back. I did hear that he is trying to get ownership of his cars in the contract but he tried that last time and Mercedes did not cave in. It would seem like Mercedes has all the leverage in the negotiations as Lewis would never leave for a team that does not have a winning car. (Ferrari or maybe Redbull)
Just like Nico Rosberg, Lewis Hamilton may perhaps contemplate retirement as an alternative to signing another contract.
