  1. In F1, if you stall, you're out. That's why you see no re-starts of a car anywhere. ;)

That's what I figured. I just didn't know if that's the way it's been in F1 since I stopped watching when the 2009 cars debuted. :)

I wish IndyCar didn't allow cars to be restarted. If you stall, it's your fault...tow it out of the way. It reminds me of go-kart tracks where people spin out and need someone to physically turn them around and sometimes restart them (gas-powered karts at least).

  3. Le Mans is best. Car can be restarted/repaired on track only by the driver who can not separate himself from the car by x number of meters. :)

Are there technical regulations against Fi or Indy cars from having starters? It seems like it would be worth the weight penalty to be able to restart the car without needing the safety crew.

    I can't find a rule disallowing it in F1.

    https://www.fia.com/regulation/category/110

I'm guessing it would weigh a lot and they don't think the driver is dumb enough to stall it in F1? Plus they have anti-stall tech.

F1 cars used to have starters - consider J.P. Sarti's Ferrari at Monza in "Grand Prix" - but they were dropped due to weight.

Here is another thing I didn't understand.

How difficult is it to switch into REVERSE? Some of these guys caused yellows because it took them too long to go backwards and then stalled the engines. This should be super simple in today's world.

Just now getting around to watching a replay of the race, was driving to Disney (lucky me) on Sunday so only got to listen to the radio broadcast. No comments yet on the race, I’m going to have to watch the Rossi move again a few times before I can make up my mind about it. At first blush, I can certainly see both sides of the argument.

What I wanted to post about was an interesting bit of conversation between Helio and the broadcasters during a commercial break. The YouTube replay does not cut away, and their mikes stayed hot. Basically it is Helio talking about how hard it is to watch and not be in the car, but having to put on a happy face for the fans, and asking Cheever how he managed to make that life change. Nice honest look at how hard it can be to walk away when racing is in your blood. I will be pulling for Helio at the 500, always found him to be one of the good guys. Fast forward to about 25:45.

He gave him a mile. There's an overhead video out there in YouTube land you can see there was more than enough room, even if Rossi did get a touch sideways. The issue was Rossi touched the kerb AND got sideways so it was all over at that point.

Wanted a Wickens win but have zero problem accepting the attempted pass by Rossi.

Some racing still may have some appeal. I still love sprints and midgets. Still great racing on short tracks. Just sorry big time racing is what it is. It deserves to die.

  14. I don't know if it deserves to die, per se. My pernt of view, it's just evolution.
Alvin Toffler said it...the only thing about change that's constant.....change.....

Sebring was an enjoyable race today,. That's a plus for what it's worth.

Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid. How many years do you need to know when it’s time to qualify your car to avoid the bubble altogether. Frig!

Quite a few, no doubt. When the race has a popular title sponsor like that, one of the prerequisites is they buy a large block of tickets.

How exactly does this qualifying work? Fastest 33 on Saturday make it to the 500 and the fastest 9 of those 33 get a chance on Sunday at pole? Is that right?

If that's the case, it's stupid that a full-time season driver like Hinchcliffe is shut out while 1 race only drivers like Helio, Danica, and Mann get a chance to race AND push out a full time racer that helps keep the series alive rather than picking and choosing what races to choose.

The "bump day" bumps should only apply to non-full time drivers regardless of how fast they are relative to full time drivers. This series is a joke.

Ya think? Gimmicks never hold interest for long. As for the bumping process.....it worked well many years ago. Today is simply what you stated....a joke.

    Welcome to socialism in racing!
