The asbestos issue has killed imports almost completely, the Maserati's from the international event are apparently still here.

I just followed up, as i got told on Sunday they were still her, however they were allowed to leave as they were in bond and hadn't actually been on Australian soil ( go figure) Two of the 6 impounded cars, one was a returning Australian car after restoration in the UK the other was a 2005 car and was approved.

I know red was an option as mine are red.
I am quite sure but don’t quote me that yellow was also an option Adrian so it would still look original

LCT has always been used as a de-facto trade barrier, when introduced the LCT was set at a level just above the price of the Ford LTD, at the time most expensive aussie built car. Duty is only 5% and I think going to be abolished as well

I don't see LCT going away - a cheap cash cow and no upside for a government proposing it (not enough affectees to cause a positive in the polls, but huge downside risk - the opposition (whomever it was at the time) would be screaming blue murder about fat cats vs battlers.

It will go, the benefits to Australia in getting an FTA in place with the EU far outweigh keeping the LCT. The European's have been using this as a key negotiating point.

Makes no sense. It's not an importation cost.

The Europeans view the LCT as simply trade barrier in disguise ( which it was ) and hence want it removed. The LCT has only ever applied to luxury imported cars as the LCT level was set above the price of nearly every Australian built car.( a couple of HSV's were above it).
Australia wants a Free Trade Agreement with Europe, especially now that relationships have become frosty with China. An FTA means Australia would get free access to the European market for commodities. In return, the Europeans want free access to our market for their exports, a large component of which are vehicles subject to the LCT.

It is no longer a trade barrier....it's just a tax...like a sliding income tax scale. I'll be staggered if it's removed. It doesn't stop anyone buying an imported car, does it? no...obviously not.
