Fine, but would you love it the same if it were wearing a Kia, Honda or Nissan badge?

Of course, I said I like it.

How could you expect me to answer "no" to your question?

If you think I just like it because it has a Ferrari badge, re-read my post, I said I never liked the 488.

The interesting thing is they got rid of the ugly side intakes on the 488 which would seem to indicate the inclusion of those intakes on the 488 was actually a design choice and not really needed.

I'm surprised they included those giant gaping holes on the 488 since they obviously did not need them.

That's obviously pure speculation from me, but for a one-off the customer may have decided a trade-off between wished styling and cooling efficiency - which might not have been accepted for a publicly available car.
In other words, I'm not so sure the side intakes are actually not needed on the 488 (there are always different styling options, but completely hiding them might not have been possible without willingly compromising the cooling).

You made two interesting posts for me there, beacuse the side intakes of the 488 are pecisely the feature I like the least on that car.

F40 was based from the 308/288 design though....

If it drove like the 488, looked like the SP38 and had a Honda badge, with a Honda price, it would fly out of the showroom! On the other hand, who wouldn't prefer a Ferrari badge, whatever it looked like?

maybe it will look better in ten years: its shape is even too modern, today. Looks like to be a 458 MM (and J50) design evolution: the "hand" is clearly the same.

No, not their design language at all. I believe the 458 MM was introduced after the 488 was revealed, hence why it resembles it a lot.

    That's correct but it doesn't mean 308/288 = F40

The front with frontmost upper black part (bumper) clearly resembles 308/288, IMO. No such thing in F40.

The windshield/roof area with the black A-pillars clearly resembles 288, IMO. No such thing in F40.

The rear cover shutlines resemble F40, as they suggest. No such shutlines in 308/288.

The rear wing/spoiler area IMO is not similar to any model before, I think it's a stretch to assimilate it to the F40 wing.

The ' one off ' Ferrari only has to please one customer. The 488 has to please about 15,000 customers. Big difference...

I can't really address whether or not the air intakes are really 'necessary'.......I tend to think they are. But it's one thing to do a 'one off' car versus one for mass production. The cooling requirements are not the same, I'm surmising.

    I’d like to see a 812 and a GTC4lusso SP as well.

Liking it more and more with a 2nd look, although the rear kind of looks like a Dodge Challenger is driving out of it.

I don't like it . It looks like a mish mash. It really only has to please the person who ordered it.

Anyway what would one of these on off cars cost ?

That's a unsubstantiated comment. What would have priority ? one car knocking or 4000 plus ? ( I assume you know what that is but most likely you have no idea )
How DO YOU KNOW THAT THIS car has not had the boost turned down, and remapped differently ?
Comments like those you have posted shows genuine lack of knowledge in engines and the like. I can guess you have never built an engine, a worked engine and or either superchargers or turbos.
You are looking at pictures and somehow you have absolute knowledge about the whole build.
You don't like the air intakes , so that's your opinion BUT there are thousands of OWNERS that love them.

OK Just read the I.C's are sitting below the rear windows...interesting concept. Still uses side scoops though to draft air through the coolers..

PS wouldn't pay too much to noone1 - he's just a harmless soul with a happy disposition not knowing what day it is with engines.
