Schumacher raced during an era where unlimited testing was allowed. He benefited from an extensive testing programme and had many sessions on Ferrari private track at Fiorano to develop his cars, fine tune their settings, etc... No other team tested as much as Ferrari, and probably no other driver did as many laps as Schumacher.

Hamilton races in an era where testing are severely restricted, and where all the teams have the same opportunity to develop their cars. But he often come out on top of the opposition, thanks to his ability to make use of the few days of testing allowed to sort out his car, and to adapt immediately to the aero changes made to his car between GPs. No other driver can presently match his skills.

Michael was the only driver with the wherewithal to realise the important part he could play in the development of the car. Elton can barely work his own steering wheel. Adapt to changing conditions.... good god, haven’t you heard him pleading on the radio for the team to tell him what buttons to press, and how to improve?... he is a fast driver in the class car of the field, has been since 2014. Where would he be in any other car on the grid?, moaning somewhere from third down to 12th. He is no better than any other driver out there, and definately behind a number of them

Want to see a driver that had the brains to carry out more than just turning the wheel, here he is, consummate professional, fantastic champion

(Makes me laugh when James Allen says ‘ferrari don’t make many pit stop mistakes’.......how times have changed!)

GRO gets my vote, Stroll you can blame on youth but Romain has been around long enough and was already suspended from races a few years back. I think his time has come to go race a different series.

Every driver 'realizes' this...there is no distinction in that. It's about having the knowledge and clout to actually do it and do it well. Of course Michael was one of the best...

Racing drivers...whether it's Schumacher, Alonso, Hamilton... like driving the the car...and they like playing with settings related to extracting best balance and performance from the car. Like adjusting with the diff, the roll bars, brake balance, corner to corner...

However no real driver likes being a constant system manager or an 'airline pilot' to use the apt Alonso phrasing. The Hamilton 'button pressing' incident was about in electronic glitch affecting a certain engine mode (which was the correct mode to be in at the time.)

Only millktoast drivers such as Nico Rosberg really get off on things like 'system management', 'managing the MGUK', energy harvesting, and Formula E...you know all the stuff people around here pretend to hate.

Do you think Gilles would have had any patience dealing 'system glitches' and 'Energy Recovery System modes'?' Haha... :D

Giles didn’t need too........ the drivers nowadays are essentially like jet pilots, and managing the cars systems are as much of the job as steering and braking. The fact elton struggles shows he has little spare brain capacity after pointing it in the right direction, and is why unless the car is absolutely bang on, he struggles to bring it home, UNLIKE drivers such as alonso, Michael and others who revel in their ability to manage the car as much as the race, and are perceptibly better drivers overall because of it

Name another driver that has driven straight into the back of a ferrari in the pit lane exit, or maybe another one that has been crane lifted BACK ONTO THE CIRCUIT in total breach of the regulations and enabled to carry on, or maybe name another one that managed to drive into the gravel trap at pit entry in China like a ****ing moron

    Bravo. Very well said!

Lewis Hamilton was a real sensation when he burst on the F1 stage in 2007. Not only he humiliated his twice WDC team mate, but he almost won the title at his first attempt !!! I knew we were on to something when I saw that.

PS: Pre-war, Bernd Rosemeyer led his first GP and finished 2nd on an Auto Union. That was his first car race EVER !!!
He won the next GP and finished 2nd in the European Championship (then); he was racing against the "crème de la crème" of his era: Nuvolari, Varzi, Stuck, Carraciola , von Brauchtish, etc...

I compare Hamilton to Rosemeyer for his meteoric career.

Schumacher, in his benneton. The best car was the Williams. Arguably both seasons. The Williams was much faster, Michael made the difference.

    Nice try, but no cigar

This thread is about the worst driver in f1, and all the elton fans want to argue about elton...... are they worried people think he’s the worst driver then? Hehehehehehehe. Must’ve touched a few nerves.... love it..

No one has said he’s the worst (the stupidest, worst dresser, most ignorant, most arrogant, least likeable, etc, yes) but he isn’t the worst. That said, he is a million miles from the best, a fast chump

Bull crap, both Shumi and team mate had multiple podiums, and Berger even won races. So it was a top car. And you still haven't answered my question. Since it's pains you to say it I will answer, Nobody's rookie year was as impressive as Ham's

Hehe...re-read the thread. Lewis wasn't brought up at all, until 'The Strad' said he was the 'Worst of all time', haha. I post which you 'liked'... of course!
You guys are quite clearly obsessed.

Hamilton's greatness doesn't need to be extolled by me...it's quite obvious to any rational, thoughtful person. If you guys don't want every thread to be about Lewis, just stop bringing him up in every thread. Quite simple. :D
