Went grocery shopping with my wife two weeks ago and when I come out I notice a door ding on my drivers side on my 2007 Ferrari F430. It was small and you have to look at it on an angle with some sunlight. When I get home I put a fluorescent light all around the car and noticed three dings on the drivers door panel and two on the passengers. Yesterday I found a PDR repair guy with outstanding online reviews. He spent over six hours repairing five dings. I'm happy to report that the panels look nice and clean after the repairs. The five dings cost me $700...not sure if that's about the going rate. Anyone getting dinged all the time? I feel people do this on purpose. I've owned the car since January of this year and put approximately 500 miles on her.

I never leave my car in a parking lot or unattended. Too many inconsiderate, jealous people out there.

It really sucks that door dings happen, especially in a nice car like a Ferrari. However, in reality it is just a car, and it’s mystique should not own you. Rather, you own the “nice car”. Curse, then fix the dings and always be carful where you park. You can never control every situation. It shouldn’t preclude you from “leaving it alone in a parking lot” or you are letting the car “own you”. $700 seems reasonable for 5 dings.

Any car left in a supermarket parking lot will collect door dings. People don't care and doors swing open wide for kids and to accommodate package loading.

$700.00 is fine considering the time and expertise put into the job.

I just paid $75/panel on a car I was going to sell and didn't want to get raked over the coals because of the dings. He's a local guy to my area with approx. 30 years experience, comes to the house and gets it done. Guy left it flawless and took about an hour and a half to fix about 10. He found some minor ones that I didn't even know about. When he was done and $300 later, I was pissed at myself that I let those dings sit there for so long. I'm going to have him come out and fix 3 smallish ones on my Cayenne here shortly.

How much do CF doors cost for the F430? Get a pair, paint them, and put on PPF. Never need to worry about dings again. The fenders will still be susceptible.

I don't seem to have that problem with my 328. Perhaps the fact that your car is a full foot wider makes the difference. Or perhaps the older cars just get more respect than the newer ones?

You took the words out of my mouth.

I guarantee if it wasn't a Ferrari he would have charged a fraction of that

$140 per song for PDR work? That sounds reasonable to me. To get the car back to mint condition Id say that charge is ok.
Sometimes if it's just one ding, then the charge may be say $250, but there is normally better value in getting several done at once.

Most people are either jealous or just don't give a s***. Whenever I take mine out, I park it somewhere that minimises any other cars parking next to me, without being ****** and "obviously" taking up two spaces.

You probably suffer it less in the US, but in the UK, car spaces seem to still be sized to fit the original Mini, not a modern car...

I've been sat in my DD in a supermarket and somebody open their door into me. They had no clue, until I confronted them and told them to get their wallet out!

I wouldn't take it personally, just a joy of owning a car...now go count the number of dents in you DD :)

I take the Hyundai grocery shopping. It already has a couple dings, which shows me what would happen to my Ferrari if I parked it there. So I avoid them as much as possible by not putting my car in the situation.

Funny thing is people don't ding my truck. 1st it is tall so many doors get stopped by the running boards. 2nd people are scared of people in trucks. It takes a "certain" kind of person who would put a 3/4 ton diesel truck in a compact parking space.

A number of years ago I was waiting in the parking lot for my wife while she was in the grocery store. I watched an older man pull into a spot and get out of his car. Keep in mind that there was enough room to safely exit his car. As the door opened he then kicked the door so that it slammed into the other car. As the door rebounded from hitting the other car, he gave it another kick! After that he got out of his car and went into the store. As others said, I will not put myself into that type of situation even with our DD. That is also why I DD a beater car.

One of my fears in driving my Ferrari is getting a door dent, it would ruin my day and definitely make the person who did it a bit miserable as well. I never park my Ferrari were it can be hit because 1 out of 100 people just don’t care, they really don’t. It is that 1 person who would hit or scratch your car and just act is if it never happened. When I park at a car show, I never leave it...period. People with bikes (bike peddles are the worse!) and strollers etc. would only offer an “I’m sorry” before walking away...they just don’t care.

Most don't care or are clueless that your car is really nice and cost a lot of money or they are jealous and did it in purpose. Ferraris do not belong in grocery store parking lots.

IMO life is too short to stress over door dings so while i try to avoid them, i dont worry about them if they happen. If my intention is to keep the car pristine I probably shouldnt ever let it out of the garage

It’s really about avoiding issues and minimizing the risk, I still take my car out of the garage and enjoy it.

Well, you can always be like this guy I saw at Costco in the last week. He had his Camero SS parked on an end spot. He was sitting on a lawn chair with the SS logo on the back, located next to his car. I assume the little woman was in schlepping stuff around Costco, while he kept guard for door dings. Either that or he thought he was at cars and coffee.

I never park where there is any chance of potential damage. And then I watch it like a hawk. I dont mind folks going up to it and taking pics, but get edgy when it gets to peering inside and touching it. Most people are courteous and dont get too close.
But I do agree, there are jealous people that would ding the doors and do other damage thinking it belongs to a "rich jerk" instead of knowing that it really belongs to an average hard working individual that chose to manage his money and assets differently.
