How to “register” your 458 w Ferrari for 7 year maintenance.

    Just purchased a 2014 458 from a McLaren dealer who had the annual maintenance done. I have no relationship with Ferrari. For future service should I just call the local Ferrari shop to establish a service relationship and find out the timing? Do I register with Ferrari with my VIN?

    The car should already be registered with the dealer, but if the yearly inspection and maintenance work is not completed within a couple of months of it’s due date; the free maintenance can become null and void. Make sure to contact your closest dealer and find out when the yearly inspection is due.

    Did the McLaren dealer perform the annual maintenance? in theory they should have had Ferrari making it, that's the idea of the maintenance contract.

    No sorry. They had Ferrari perform the annual maintenance. Sounds like I should pay a visit to the local dealership service center.

    I took mine to a local Ferrari Dealership, they looked up the Vin, reviewed it's past services, then told me the respective date the service is due. The service alternates by year as to major or minor. They will inform you as to what service will happen& when due.

    You don't lose all of the remaining years for missing the free annual service date. You will lose the free service for THAT year (i.e. you'll pay), but as long as you get back to the schedule all remaining years will still be covered under the 7 year warranty. As already mentioned, your VIN controls, and FNA has the warranty info for that vehicle, so all the dealer has to do is run a VIN check with FNA to confirm warranty, you don't have to do anything other than provide the VIN to your Ferrari dealer.

    AFAIK this is not (always) correct Jim, we had quite some troubles over here in Europe.

    No more free services at all happened to a few of us ... pitty.

    Only way to find out is connect with the MODIS system at any oem F dealer.

    Interesting, not sure why it would be different in Europe, but I can only speak for my experience here in the U.S., which is why I referenced "FNA.". I personally spoke with FNA on this subject with my first 458, it was purchased with 1300 miles and had missed a service by 4 months (it was garaged). They explained that only THAT year was affected, and all of my subsequent years were still under warranty.

    Since you mentioned that it happened to "a few of us," implying not everyone, I wonder if it's the dealers making these decisions, not Ferrari. If it were Ferrari I would think it would be consistent among all dealers.

    The only time a dealer could / did affect it was when the fault was made by that dealer ....

    I had zero problem here in the US ...........purschsed my 458 last December and wanted to verify the service date to keep the 7 year program current. Called my local dealer, and for some reason they didn’t find the previous year service, and said they would make it current but I had to pay the one year, and once current the remainder of the 7 years would be active. Didn’t make sense as when I purchased the car it was confirmed all service was current, good story they put in the wrong vin car is fully in compliant.

    But dealer said if not they would would activated once I paid to get it back current if it was missed. They were pretty cool and apologized for the error .....
