IMO if he knew better (which he claimed after the fact) he should'vbe told the team he wants supers full stop. In the end he is the one driving the car, not anyone else...so he should be calling the tyre he wants.

Time to drop the complex compound super sticky tyres. Daniels car was waaay down on power but Seb cant attack because his tyres needed to be nursed ? Lets have 3 types of tyres that have at least a very good chance of lasting a whole race. Call them Slicks, Inters and Wets

The best car won today and it wasn't Ferrari.

Right then, bring on Canada. Here's a circuit that requires power and brakes. I think the Squadra Rossa can compete for the win.

Happy for Ricardo...he drove well...but it wouldn't have happened on almost any other track. The race between Ferrari and Mercedes, in my opinion, showed Ferrari the faster car. Sebastian attacked again and again...but the layout of the track favored Red Bull. I wished Kimi had been as aggressive in attacking Hamilton...Ferrari then might have had two cars on the podium. Canada should a better track for scoring winning points. and retaking the lead.

I think the MGUK didn't work in 7th and 8th (8th not used here). So just a deployment issue in 1 gear. Ric made up for this by not shifting into 7th (and 8th) as he'd then lose the battery power and go slower. Staying in 6th ''all he had to do'' was back off a little earlier....

Basically what this means is the car had full MUGK powers in all the other gears, so plenty of acceleration. The last gear that he couldn't use is not used very long, so Vettel didn't have the space needed to get alongside. Could seb have done more? Maybe he could. But the chance that he and Ric would tangle was too great and Lewis would walk away with the win, Vettel with 0 poiints. Would be easier to just collect the points, as he'd finish ahead of elton anyhow.

Even with brand new tyres he'd have struggled getting passed Ric.

Now, which will be the bigger news in Australia: Daniel Ricciardo winning the Grand Prix of Monaco, or Will Power winning the Indianapolis 500?

The layout of the track favored whoever was in front of someone else. Regardless, I'm happy for Ricardo as well.

Who, Bottas? Merc took out insurance in case the ultras couldn't go the distance. If the four front runners ran out of rubber it would have been Bottas cruising to an easy victory. It was a smart move on their part.

Moreso on Hammy's first year there: jumping curbs, four-wheel slides; he was just thrashing the car around the broom closet. ;)

At least in practice. They reigned him in for the race.
But I've aways wondered if they could fit an F1 car with a handbrake for the (hotel) hairpin. :p

But no one had the balls to roll the dice with 25 laps to go,... put on fresh rubber and push. They all just cruised...

Given that Max got stuck at P9,... it was probably the right call. These cars just can't pass.

Ricci did a masterful job controlling the pace, staying in clean air, and preserving his tires.

I hear you about the lack of "balls". If it were just slapping on tires and going for it, that would be different. The fact is, it's nigh impossible to overtake on that circuit, especially late in the race where any path off of the ideal line is littered with "marbles". So, they took the points and moved on. It's just as you said in your second sentence . . . . It's on to Canada.

I think we need to wait till next year to see if overtaking will be at least more possible, but I think the correct solution will be to quite simply delete the chicane after the tunnel (yep...) and possibly making Tabac a tighter corner. Another solution, which allows to retain the (iconic) chicane is just before the tunnel, a left could be made and have the cars go on the large roundabout before entering the tunnel...it only adds 75 meters in straight line but the corner is far longer, thus allowing cars to get on the throttle earlier.
