When the top 6 finish in the same order they qualified in (we just watched the equivalent of a 2 hour 0 to 0 Soccer game). Can it be consider a race if the three dominate superstar teams didn’t accomplish a single pass for the top 6 positions?
Red Bull need to offer Ricci a nice contract extension exceeding Max'. He has more than earned it. Reward him and keep him.
No and that is why this is a charity race. Not a Formula 1 race. Make some slight alterations and allow the racing that is a potential. I know Monaco will not go away so lets make it better.
I think the race is a totem, but let's be honest - it was boring. The cars are too fast and wide for anything meaningful to happen. It hasn't been a great race for a long time, but not unlike the Indy 500, it's missing something. I had more fun remembering Princess Stephanie and Grace Kelly - so much about their past I had forgotten, it was fun to look it up and read about.

https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/136365/bottas-toro-rosso-better-than-us-on-hypersoft Valtteri Bottas admits Mercedes was unable to match Toro Rosso driver Pierre Gasly's marathon opening stint on the hypersoft tyres at Monaco, where it struggled with Pirelli's softest rubber. Gasly completed 37-laps on the hypersofts, which helped him secure a seventh place finish. Lewis Hamilton dumped his hypersofts as early as lap 12 of the 78-tour race, while Bottas waited until lap 17. "It was impressive how long [a] stint they could do with the hyper, so for sure they were doing something better than us with that tyre," Bottas said. "I think the weakness for us this weekend was the long run performance with the hyper and general lack of pace with the car." Although he kept the hypersofts alive for nearly half the race, Gasly explained that the situation was unexpected. "Actually we did a much longer stint than what we had planned," he said. "We didn't expect that we would be able to keep the tyres alive that long. "It wasn't the plan at all and it's something that we decided during the race. It was quite unbelievable how many laps we did with the hypersoft in the first stint. "Before the race I wasn't confident at all with the tyres because the degradation was massive.
Interesting, so it appears a case of tyre choice put Merc into damage limitation mode, helped by Max's blunder, because odds on they would have finished behind him ...well maybe not great odds... but say a fair chance....
+1 and also I wonder how confident Mercedes are for Canada. I sense vulnerability and a red team win!
Brawn says Monaco GP critics naïve MAY 30, 2018 Ross Brawn says criticism of last weekend's Monaco grand prix is "naive". F1 fans but also drivers lashed out after last Sunday's race in the Principality -- Fernando Alonso called it "probably the most boring race in the history of F1". Brawn, F1's sporting boss for Liberty Media, agrees that Monaco 2018 "wasn't action packed, all the more so as the tyres were the key factor". "But it's a bit naive to expect lots of duels and passing moves in Monaco," he added. "It's such a special race that it should not be judged by the same criteria as the others. Naturally, the opinion of the drivers is welcome and our door is always open. "However, in Monaco you'd need to reclaim land from the sea to do something (about the circuit) and that's definitely not up to us," Brawn said.
Ross is a smart guy but the race is lacking the show it should bring to a place like Monaco. They can do better and should. IF anything he is naive to think its acceptable.
Toto has confirmed he asked Ocon to let Lewis pass at the Monaco GP. That pass was so easy it https://www.f1-fansite.com/f1-news/wolff-confirms-force-india-team-order/ …
This was rather obvious but now Mercedes has opened themselves a nasty trap towards HAAS and Sauber as road blocks in future. This might backfire big time.
At the end of Lap 11 Hamilton pits from 3rd and switches to UltraSoft tyres and rejoins in 6th behind Ocon. On Lap 14 Hamilton passes Ocon out of the tunnel for 5th place.
Boring race, but did anyone see the F2 races? Now that was exciting! I consistently find the junior formula more fun to watch than F1. Unfortunately, it's too much work to keep up with all the drivers and it doesn't have the same political/technical intrigue as F1 so I never really get into it. Racing is great though.
You make a good point. F1 is where you get that intrigue and of course history. I'm never going to have the same interest in an F2 team as I have in the peaks and troughs of SF. Racing is great though.
Part of the general lack of interest in F2 (used to be GP2) is that it's a specs series, only allowed to live in the shadow of F1, not to stand on its own. There are no well-know drivers, and the field is renewed almost every year. Years ago, F2 used to be independent category, with free chassis, free engines (within the rules) and events were held outside the F1 circus. There were some local championships running F2, like the Temporada in Argentina (4 races in winter), or the Trophy de France (4 races), or some Trophy races in Britain. Now, F2 is considered as a "feeder" series, in "the staircase of talents" (Jackie Stewart says that) towards F1. For drivers who are successful in F.2, but can't get a seat in F1. it's often the end of the road, where before, drivers could spend their career in F2. I remember when Lotus, Brabham, McLaren and ... Ferrari used to build F2 cars for private teams, and even field a factory team each. Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, Denny Hulme, Jack Brabham, Jacky Ickx, Ronnie Peterson, Jochen Rindt, and others used to race in F2 AND in F1 at the same time !!! Happy days ...
No girls, just guy friends. Next we'll be hearing how DR is ....... But really, no girls at the party. BORING.
Maybe if lil’ baby Elton Ham-Dashian actually had to pass Ocon on his own then he wouldn’t have had such a boring race as he’s so publicly whined about.
