Unless I was intent on buying the car, I'd never consider asking to sit in an F40. Same for a 288 GTO, F50, etc.

I’ll be the contrarian here....With a drink even? No f-ing way.
I still remember when some drunken chicks in high school who were friends with my then gf, spilt their booze in my new mustang before puking in it. Car smelt like ass for months.
I’m just not that desperate for the remote chance at some tail.....any more ;)

Glad many of you guys are saying no. The people who ask always seem to have a pen in their back pocket or are wearing some type of pants with ornate brass buttons on them.

I've always noticed when they have a primo car on Barrett Jackson, mostly a sports car, they put their fattest ass employee to drive it up on the stage. The car has low mileage, the owner cared for it for decades and in one swoop they put a fat ass in the seats and destroy the bolsters. Pisses me off every time. I know if I was serious about a car at auction, I'd instruct the auctioneer no 400 pounders to drive the car on the stage.

I let very few people sit in my car for many of the reasons listed in this thread (most have been family or close friends). For the few that I have let sit in my car , I tell them exactly how to get in and what not to do. I also instruct them on how to get out. When I go through the explanation, the people understand how serious I am about someone being in my car and I have found that they are very careful. Regardless, I simply tell people "NO" and tell them the truth that I just don't want people in the car and I hope they understand. Some will be fine with it and others will think you are being rude.

I honestly don't think anyone has every asked me. That said, I offer it to many. But those are people that seem to be very genuine. It feels good putting a smile on their face. Yes, I ask them to check their pockets first and be careful getting in/out.

As OCD as I am, it's worth the risk. If I was a hard "No" guy, I wouldn't go to public shows. I've had people share with me and I like to pay it forward. :)

At car shows I pull the battery terminal, put the shift lock on, and leave the doors open while I walk away.

I have no idea how many people have been in my car over the decade and a half that I've owned it. I do know that I've personally met 3 who have told me much later "your car was the first Ferrari I sat in, and I decided that day that I would have one of my own."

So to answer your question, my answer is that I don't (often) say no at all.

I did ask to sit in a 250 GTO once, and the owner (actually, the curator) agreed. Of course, it was an organized tour of a collection by our Ferrari club, the owner had instructed that we could sit in any of the cars but we were to ask and be assisted by the curator to ensure no pocket objects, proper entry and exit technique, etc. There was a line of a dozen more behind me to sit in it after I got out of the GTO!

I sometimes let kids sit in my Ferraris, but never adults. Honestly, I've never had an adult ask. I've even taken young cancer victims for rides. And friends, of course.

It's ensuring that in the process of entering or exiting the vehicle a person does not lean on, press on, hold, squeeze, push, slide, etc. on something inappropriate.

In the case of the GTO, it was alignment and order of legs, hips, shoulders to be able to fit through the tight doorway and under the large steering wheel to get into the seat without sliding your butt down the seat bolster or getting your legs jammed and blocked under the steering wheel, while being careful of where to put your hands to support yourself. It was also taking care that the racing harness straps and buckles were moved so that they weren't sat upon or rubbed against the seat while you entered.

Personally, I've let a lot of people sit in my 308 (with my direct approval and presence), given lots of people rides in it just for the experience, and let quite a few friends drive it. I'm very fortunate to be able to own a Ferrari, and I really enjoy sharing that experience with friends.

Smooth with little to no rubbing. Greatly aided by solid lower body strength, especially the exit. I do squats to make ingress/egress easier.

I have let numerous children sit in my car, usually their parents ask me in whatever parking lot if they can take a picture with it and their kid. I suggest they get in the seat for the pic. Costs me nothing and gives a child a huge smile and a memory that will last forever.

I do not get the appeal of yoga. It would bore me to death. And how do you measure progress? I can bench 430 Bowflex rods and squat all 630, and I'm sixty years old. I look like an NFL lineman and move with grace and ease. Amazing how smooth and easy it is to get out of my 308 and 360 when I can squat so much. Some of the guys my age I see at C&C type events take several seconds to climb out of their cars, and it's all their fault for being out of shape.

That reminds me an incident I had at C&C in Winnetka a couple years ago.
A guy in his 30s and his wife(girlfriend?) were looking at my 575SA and after a while he politely asked if he could sit behind the wheel.
I allowed, he got in and after a few seconds let go a big and very noisy one.
Looked at me and said: "I always wanted to fart in a Ferrari".
I was speechless, his girl was laughing so I just said to hime to just get the **** out of my face and get lost.
They walked away still laughing their asses off.......

I do exactly the same, and I recall at least one dad whispering in my ear while his son was in the driver's seat "Thank you. You've made his day." If it makes the kid happy, it makes me happy, especially since I never had that opportunity when I was a kid.

Curiously, I cannot ever remembering anyone to ask to sit in the car. I will ask them if they want to, particularly if they have that wide-eyed "oh, wow!" expression.
