Lotus was once a great team, that did not prevent them from disappearing... they were put down by a seriously incompetent management, and the same could happen with Williams.

Ferrari and Fiat are 2 different entities, and Fiat doesn't own Ferrari anymore.

Marchione split the 2 companies, precisely to protect Ferrari from Fiat's downfall.

FiatChrysler Automotive isn't doing so good.

A lot of that had to do with Colin Chapman's early death. The team lost its soul and its innovative character. It was sold a couple of times to people who couldn't manage it and was finally wound down.

Oh right...Ferrari who was propped up by FIAT and who has a sweetie deal with Marlboro.

Who is propping up Williams? Who are their unicorn sponsors?

I don't think any team will disappear due to lack of funds before 2021, Liberty will have to level out the payment system/costs etc etc then there should be a possibility of new teams coming in.

Well, I don't know. Fiat's share of the market has been steadily declining every year in Europe. Marchione announced recently the end of fabrication of Fiat in Italy (most are already built in Poland and Turkey). He also announced that some non-profitable Alfa will not be replaced. Only some Alfa and the Maserati will be made in Italy. Chrysler isn't imported in Europe any more. Maybe Jeep is doing alright in the States, but the entry-level Jeep (Renegade) is in fact a disguised Fiat 500X.
Compared to Renault-Nissan, the VW Group, or even PSA (Peugeot, Citroen, Opel) that are expanding, FCA is definitely regressing.

Whilst sales have declined in Europe, FCA is still more profitable - EBIT margin in Q1 2018 recorded a 6% increase.

Per unit sold, FCA today is more profitable than VAG.

It may well be in the States, but not here in Europe. Fiat's share of the market is minimal, and Alfas don't sell here like BMW or Audi in the same bracket.
Their network has shrunk in many countries where they used to be among the leading brands: Italy, France, Spain, or even Germany.
The Japanese and the Korean carmakers have taken over their place on the market now: Fiat couldn't compete on quality.
I don't think FCA is implanted in China or the Far East either, where most brands make most of their sales.
For a time, I used to own a FIAT/LANCIA dealership that I inherited in Belgium in the 80s, and I have witnessed their steady decline. I switched and became a Nissan dealer and most of my customers followed me to my astonishment!
I was amazed that FIAT merged with Chrysler, to be honest: two ailing businesses producing inferior cars.
Even Daimler-Benz (Mercedes) severed its association with Chrysler.
I suppose that JEEP is the only profitable company in FCA.

I remember Chrysler's partnership with Alfa back in the early 90s...and the Chrysler dealers turned it into a disaster...and Alfa left the market. For that reason I leased my Alfa Giulia rather than put "owner money" into it.

    Excerpt from 2017 Q3.

“There was another interesting fact from the Q3 results published by the European car makers this week. Volkswagen Group sold 2.4 more cars than FCA during that period, but its net profits were 1.3 higher. In other words, the net profit per unit sold was €430 for VW Group and €810 for FCA. Of course the German’s results are explained by the additional provisions in connection with the diesel issue with special items of €2.6 billion which had been recognized for this in the third quarter. Interestingly, though, FCA made more money by unit sold than the big Volkswagen.”

I am not disputing that, but I think this analysis grossly distorts the long term forecast about FCA.
The facts are that FIAT is loosing share of the market year by year:
Alfa Romeo and Maserati are not making a dent on BMW, Mercedes and AUDI in their segment.
Only Jeep seems to be doing well, but it's a niche market.
I am not the only one to think FCA's future is doomed.

Perhaps to you the 2017 European sales of 107 569 units is "niche", but globally JEEP sold 1.4 Million units last year. JEEP will keep FCA profitable.

    https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/136402/williams-aero-head-steps-down-from-role

Dirk de Beer has stepped down from his role as the Williams Formula 1 team's head of aerodynamics.

Williams has had a terrible start to the 2018 F1 season, scoring just four points over six races with the difficult FW41.

De Beer joined Williams from Ferrari at the start of 2017 and played a key part in the aggressive design of this year's car.

His departure follows that of chief designer Ed Wood at the start of May, with ex-McLaren head of aero Doug McKiernan effectively assuming the outgoing duo's responsibilities.

"Williams can confirm that Dirk de Beer has stepped down from his role as head of aerodynamics, effective immediately," a Williams spokesperson said.

I voted Mercedes. Big fan, but I'm with the group that thinks when the formula changes out of their favor they'll pack up their bag and go home.

I’ll be the contrarian here and say Force India. The team will survive but I mean a name / ownership change.

Vijay Mallya is in a whole lot of trouble and I think he’ll try to raise cash by selling his stake.
