Where she will no doubt blame her mistakes on her partner and favor her competitors with her usual aggressive bitchy attitude. Luckily it is not a show I ever watch.
Ahh mannn, come on. I hadn't watched monoco yet. Didn't expect monoco spoilers in an indy 500 thread.
An interesting 500. We had about 50 people gathered at Curated in Miami for the event, despite terrible weather moving through Florida this weekend, viewing on the big screen with catered lunch and full bar. Good for Power, a deserving win. He's a tough as nails driver and at the end, he was hooked up so no one could catch him. Just saw an interview where he told Pruett and Miller that he wanted to stay in front of Carpenter as he knew how fast he was and it would be difficult to pass if he had lost the lead at the restart. Pity for Bourdais though, showed just how skittish the new aero package is in turbulence. Seeing some interesting comments about the new aero package though. Many bemoaning the new aero, lack of grip with the absence of all the aero aids as in the past. There's just no pleasing some people. Complain about too much aero grip, advocate for reduction of grip, get it, and then complain about lack of grip. It was the same for everyone, get over it. BHW
The best thing about the new IndyCar aero is the cars look 1000 times better. The next best thing is they take professional drivers to get the most out of them. I wasn't surprised when it caught out Danica, but was with Kanaan.
I watched and I have to say it was a wholly boring race. The drama didn't really start materializing until Helio spun out. The story of the race was either Stefan Wilson or Alexander Rossi, and neither of them could do enough to make the final laps more exciting. When Wilson pitted, I was deflated - even KNOWING he was due to come in. Would have been cool to see him push to try and win. I like that the cars are harder to figure out. They look better but still too weird. When Helio spun, they started talking about "the car", and how it's hard to figure out, and that's when some reality hit - they're ALL using the same car. Kind of hokey - just removes a lot of excitement for me. Really need a Lola / Reynard / Swift type deal again, it would just make it a little more exciting. I keep thinking about the Pruett article on Willy T., and all the different engine issues they had across the different manufacturers - other teams might have figured out their combination, they struggled. When they got in the show, it was an accomplishment. That drama is what drives Indy. I'm happy for Power, but the race was a big "meh" for me.
I'm a bit tired of all the Danica-bashing. Yes, she was out of place in NASCAR, but seriously, her record at Indy was pretty good, better than a lot of the men! So give her a bit of credit.
She must be pretty disappointed having DNF'd both races she entered this season. Not the way one wants to go out, but she can't complain having made that many millions driving a car in circles (and the occasional wall ).
6 top 10s in 8 starts at the Indy 500, not too shabby (crashes the other two races). she should have stayed in Indycar or gone sports car racing. NASCAR clearly wasn't her cup of tea, but that's where the paycheck was.
On to where there is smoke there is fire, at this point I can hardly breath the smoke is so thick. Tidbits from yesterday and today. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
We'll if you're going to do an engine deal, you do it in Detroit. Zak making the trip to Detroit next weekend tells me he's not there just to watch the race.
Absolutely. Dinner at Roger's house. Fred and Zak pick the powerplant of choice, hand mountains of cash over, and go back home knowing that next year a championship is in the bag. What the hell more can you ask for?
Meh. How much of her "better than a lot of the men" was simply the level of equipment (that she always knocked) being better than most? How much was down to her weight advantage? Her driving style apparently suited Indy better than most other tracks and that's about all that can be said about her being any good at all. See you Princess, don't let the door hit you in the arse on your way out.
Yeah I could see McLaren running a Honda next year partnering with the Andretti team, using that year to analyze the Indycar engine and then do a full factory effort including a McLaren spec engine the following year. If they're truly serious I could see it playing out that way with maybe even Gil de Ferran being team manager since he's now on their payroll.
Ed Jones had a shunt almost exactly like Danica's only a few moments before. Kanaan and Bourdias' incidents were both result of turbulence. If any of the pit reporters had asked them if turbulence was an issue, I sure didn't hear it. But, whenever they'd go with onboard camera, the cars were obviously stepping out quite a lot. How about Rossi's incredible passes on the outside of Turn One? I was convinced at that point that he'd win because it seemed he could put his car anywhere on the track and it hooked up. BHW
Unfortunately, you're only comparing her Indy 500 results and not her entire portfolio which is seriously lacking in both Indy car and Nascrap, considering the high profile teams she was affiliated with during her career. She made headlines with her performance in the FF Festival and yet her road course performances suffered more and more each year, and if she stayed in Indy Car when the series merged and the talent pool increased, she would have fallen even further down the finishing order, (ala Marco), than prior to her move to Nascar. She's very successful in earning a large income off the track, but her performance on the track didn't match it.
her open wheel results were acceptable. not stellar, but good. keep in mind her comparison pool should be funded drivers, not "hired guns" put in a car to win races/championships consistently. she was totally outclassed in NASCAR, but again, she brought the $$$$. that's all that matters in motorsport.
speaking of money, ratings for the 500 worst in the 30 YEAR HISTORY of ABC carrying the race live. ouch. https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/motor/2018/05/28/indianapolis-500-tv-ratings-continue-decline/649613002/
Interesting but when was the last time an Indy Car race out rated NASCAR? Frankly, the buzz around Indy was much higher than Charlotte. And, while I'm not exactly seeking out what happened at Charlotte, nor do I give a flying damn, I've hardly seen anything about it other than Kyle Busch won. NASCAR is in free fall right now. BHW
