As I am sure there are many stereotypes associated with Ferrari's, the biggest one that I have noticed is that everyone seems to think that you must be rich if you own one. I always point out that that is just not true. It certainly helps if you are, but it is not necessary. I ask them if they saw me with a new $30,000 camper behind a new $70,000 truck, would they think I was rich? Truth is, the guy with the truck/camper will actually have spent more after 10 yrs ownership than I would with a Ferrari with just depreciation alone. So just wondering how the community feels about this obvious stereotype. Because I can attest, at least in my case that you dont have to be rich to own a Ferrari. Just smart with money.;)

The only stereotype i worry about in the f355 is if its turned off so i can hear that 5 valve sing.

    348 owner - manly man
    355 owner - gell-headed girly man
    :D
    More?
Stooge - Real Ferraristi personally responsible for car care
360, 430, 458, 488 owner - "Is that where the oil goes?" Someone with Tony's number on speedial.
550 owner - Old guy trying to reconnect with youth image who's probably better off with a Corvette, or FBB :p
575 owner - A bit older than that guy
456 and 612 owner - originally a rich guy trying too hard for the wife's approval to buy a Ferrari. Now, someone who knows the value of a buck and a great deal when he sees one, or Peter SCTrojan
F40 owner - someone I will never be but try so hard to emulate, a Ferrari owning god-man!
    308/328 owner - iconoclast
Dino owner - Luddite forever trying to claim Ferrari ownership of a Fiat product
Vintage V-12 Ferrarri owner (pick one) - achronistic elitist
Vintage GTO - Hedge fund manager or confidence man
    F50 owner - Persian prince
    Enzo owner - Saudi prince
LaFerrari owner - celebrity spoiled child, or new moneyed techno-Millenial (wait, that was for any Lamborghini). Maybe another Saudi prince
Mondial owner - Ferrari waif striving for a better model
Mondial T owner - above, but getting there
    Did I miss offending anyone?

Great stuff, Vince! And way more true than not, I suspect. Except I’d suggest that 308GT4 owners are the iconoclasts. 308 GTB/S owners are huge Magum PI fans.

You missed TRs though. I’m curious how you’d stereotype them since I want one.

TR owners are wanna be drug dealers from the 80's. Watch how they rub their noses a lot. ;)

@Chup, maybe in your mind. :D Or you are just an old soul. :)

Unfortuantely, I look at GT4 owners the same way as Dino owners. "Yes it IS a REAL Ferrari!" ;)

Aren't all 308 owners names Tom?

    Ha!

I think my stereotype for TR owners would be "Doesn't own a tie. Or a pair of socks." IOW, the opposite of a vintage V-12 owner, who wears dress socks to bed.

As a GT4 fan, I still think "Iconoclast" is perfect, as in "We own the best of the 308 series but nobody knows that because whenever anybody says "308" the rest of the world thinks "Magnum PI". FWIW, I think many current GT4 owners actually prefer the Dino badging.

Not sure all 308GTB/S owners are named Tom (they might be, actually), but I'm pretty sure they all have moustaches. ;)

The laferrari owner is true as hell. I do know a few owners that actually appreciate the brand. If they keep this up I think the brand is going to loose its mystique

For no long-held, 1970-born, GenX-raised reason whatsoever – my spirit animal is the Porsche 911, for crissakes – I decided to buy a Scuro blue '95 355 a couple years ago. As I've said to anyone who'll listen, and quite a few who have no ******* interest in listening at all, this car is an outrageous occasion every time I decide to get behind the wheel.

Whatever your motivation for buying it, I just hope to hell you're driving it. There is nothing like this ownership experience, whatever floor you get on to ride up.

Taste maybe, smart no. Just have a look in P&R and you’d be waaaaaayyy surprised at the lack of intellegence here. :) It absolutely floors me reading some of the stuff people post.

    That's why it is a stereotype!!! :) :) :)

I have found that of all the car clubs we belong to, the most open, welcoming and exciting group is the Ferrari group. Hands down....

The other owners I have met are simply fantastic, kind and intelligent people.

True, typo on intelligence. I mangled that iPhone typing didn’t I? :)

Regarding the track record, man I don’t bother with that part of fchat anymore. “Been almost year”? Not sure what you mean. If you’re saying it’s been a year since I’ve been there, it’s very possible. I like to think of the people here are car friends who share a love of Italian cars. I go in there and I just shake my head George Carlin style. :) So I don’t anymore.

Anyway, I was just messing around with the comment. But where there’s humor, there’s also truth. And unfortunately, there is too much truth to my comment about P&R. :)
