    Hello all,

Having occasionally viewed threads on the forum for many years I have decided to join !

I have a few question regarding the Dino engine,
What are the differences between a Fiat Dino 2.4 and a dino 2.4 removed from a 246 ?

The reason I ask is a friend of mine , in France, is planning on restoring a 246 that belonged to his father. But it has no engine.

We have located the correct 246 gearbox. (M series)

Local to my friend is a Dino engine far cheaper than normal, we suspect it has come from a Fiat Dino 2.4 , is there any way to telling ?
    Any advice appreciated.
Kind regards Spencer. From the U.K.

The Fiat Dino engine will have a conventional sump as it was front placed longitudinally whereas the Ferrari Dino engine was rear mid placed transversely with a trans-axle attached.

Spencer, first off, welcome to the forum! Lots of great knowledge here! Here’s a couple of images of a Fiat Dino and a 246GT motor. I “think” they’re both the same internally but with different sumps bolted on. Hopefully someone with factual knowledge will chime in!

I seem to recall the sump to engine oil pickup is different.
The carbs type, linkage and jetting are slightly different as well

Kevin O'Rourke (Mototechnique) may have a spare Dino engine (see thread about Dino V8).
