I am only going to watch it because I was in front of the TV for the pilot in 7th grade until the last when I was in college. I can't not watch it.

But I don't have to like it.

Jalopnik just had their say about it. Modern CGI must be a real bummer for today's actors, I know there are a few REAL scenes in the original where you see the gauges and the 308 is right in it's sweet spot - 110 mph and 5400 rpm. When you floor it at that point it does kinda go, I don't think any Camrys are gonna hang. :)

I wonder where they're going to film the 'estate exterior' scenes.

Michael Bay's house would be appropriate.

Let's see if they blow up the original estate in CGI before moving somewhere else.

I watched the preview. It looks like a stinker. I will give it a chance though.

Higgins was a huge part of the show. Changing that in my eyes is a big problem. For me Higgins was the show.

But......"New Higgins" is rather easy on the eyes. If she runs around in those yoga tights most of the time, I could be persuaded to watch.

    Just sayin'.

I thought she looked like a soccer mom who just rolled out of bed. And not the hot kind.

Movies or Books? On the big screen, 007 was clearly issued the DB5 by Q Branch in Goldfinger to replace the Bentley that was worn out.
It was not until the new Daniel Craig 007 that Bond "won" the DB5 for himself in Casino Royale. But even then, remember he was playing with the Queen's money and presumably would have to report the winnings and turn the car over. It was obviously upgraded and reissued to him in Skyfall, then rebuilt in Spectra.

Thanks for the clarification Dennis. I thought the DB5 was originally issued to him by Q Branch back in the day. Cheers
    P.S Excellent video !!

Let's deal with the movies (as far as I'm aware, Bond never drove a DB5 in the books):

In "Goldfinger", Bond is assigned the DB5 as the Bentley he drives is deemed to be out of date/worn out - So that would make it the property of the British Government (via Q-branch), and not Bond's personal property.

Years later in "Goldeneye", Bond has been injured and is on R&R around Monaco, racing a Ferrari F355 - Which would mean the period would have to be @ 1995. By this time, the DB5 would be 30 years old, and with the exception of under cover work (pretending to be the plaything of a rich owner), it would have been retired two decades ago due to being too old, too slow, and too easy to spot - So why is Bond swanning around the hills above Monaco in his own time in it? The implication is, the DB5 has become his own personal car.

In the 2006 "Casino Royale", the story of the DB5 is reset, and as you rightly point out, Bond wins the car, but he uses the British Governments money to do it, so yes, it would most like be classified as Government property (and rather than fit loads of gadgets to a seriously out of date car, and give it to Bond to use, they would be far more likely to simply sell the car).

In "Skyfall" [SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!] Bond is assumed to be dead, and so all of his personal belongings are put into storage. But hang on! - What do we find in storage?: The DB5! Now if the DB5 wasn't Bond's personal car, why would they put it in storage?

At the end of "Skyfall", the DB5 is completely destroyed, greatly upsetting Bond, but in "Spectre", Q-branch are rebuilding the car. apparently for Bond - Why?
With the amount of damage done to the car, if it was the property of the British Government, they would simply scrap the remains off as it would be of little use to them as an operational car, they would have zero emotional attachment to the car, and it would be a waste of resources to restore it (they could buy a much newer Aston Martin for less money, that would be far more suitable for modern day operational use).

Would Q-branch restore the car for Bond though? - Possibly, if they wanted to appease their number one spy and keep him from wanting to quit the service.

In Magnum PI, the Ferrari most definitely never belonged to Magnum.

In the Bond movies, there is some evidence to suggest that the DB5 became Bond's personal property.

Meanwhile, back in the real World.............

    ;):D

    Well that’s pretty darn cool!
I just wish the 308 was going to be in it the whole time.
I would watch it for that alone..

They die in the first episode, and are replaced by 2 adorable Pugs.

Well, despite all the negatively in this Magnum P.I. thread. I can't really see a down side to anything that puts the 308 back in the spot light. as 308 owners we all personally know how great this car is, and what it was back in its heyday. But as owners we all know the ugly truth. in the 21st century this car is ALL SHOW & no go. My 85 308 QV is hands down the most beautiful body style ever made. But at 240HP and 3400lbs Honda Accords are faster, and Magnum can't chase down or keep up with any of the exotics of today. The 308 is would absolutely be the better looking out of the two, but the performance is just not there to compete with today's cars.

I would have LOVED to see the car make it to the end of at least the first season. Let's just hope the show give us a little boast in it resale value.
