Recently aquired a 74 dino gts and the metal locks for the side vent windows have come off. What is the best way to reattach these metal locks to the glass windows? Thanks.

Glue works, for a little while.

What I saw on a car in Reading was rather more ingenious.

The owner had designed a chrome clip that went around the glass itself, and the window lock was then welded to the clip.

I haven't gotten these made yet, but it's on my list of things to do.

Dave, thank you what a great idea. I have a fabricating engineer who lives across the street who I bet can make them. If successful I will have him fab four and I will send you two. Many thanks Dave and have a good weekend.

Not sure if you are correct here. My 74 246GT has these 'clips'. I think they may have been standard on later models (not fabricated)

i have seen them as well and believe they are aftermarket. to the best of my knowledge, the dinos and daytonas both had the latches glued to the windows with paired "buttons" on the outside to complete the look. they are a pain in the rear. in fact, i know several people who fitted real latches by drilling a hole in the glass. unless a car has already been modified, i would not fit this system. after all, where are you going to leave you car that someone will break into it?

I just glued mine and never really "latch" them. In the few times I've been caught in the rain I've never had any problems with water infiltration.

    Cheers, John

100% Correct! All were the same-all were factory glued-we reglued . All fell off again &again. Some post end of production began the drilling and attaching a back piece, but at the time replacement windows were plentiful and not expensive. Never saw until late after production with someone coming up with the backplate idea. My Dino was gone by then.

I gave up gluing mine. The glue works for just a little while.

Its one of those Dino-isms that give the car "character"! :)

    Still digging.

As I reread the original thread, it appears that we had a member here considering fabricating a few sets. Nothing ever came of that.

Did you peek at the sources list sticky for it?

I just want to add some technical info regarding the infamous glued vent window locks. I have experienced quite a lot with different types of glue and mounting techniques and my conclusion is that the best (and only?) way to ensure a solid repair is to slightly scratch / grind the area to be glued on the glass and corresponding metal surface (I used a small Dremel grinder with a round sand stone). Hereafter use 2 component slow hardening epoxy glue like Araldit or similar. I made a special mock up to apply a good amount of pressure to the lock against the window while the glued set up. So far, the lock have been steady in place for a year and I use the vent window very frequently.

You have to be about the only Dino owner that I know of that uses/closes those vent window locks. Every Dino that I have seen where someone closed the locks, the vent window glass delaminated.

You are absolutely right. My right side glass delaminated last year and I went for a glass with a hole for the lock. The original glued left side glass is still holding fine and I use it trouble free on hot days but keeps fingers crossed every time I tension the lock.

I don't ever plan to use the vent locks so I think I will use a less reliable glue such as Lexel (clear butyl rubber) or silicon sealant to affix the locks. I want them on the vent windows but don't want to risk chipping the glass. I would rather the glue fail.
