I sold the 2001 360 Modena 6-speed manual in my avatar and bought a 2005 F430 manual. I just couldn't resist. I did a total con job on myself...I was caught up in the idea of it being something special, the last manual Ferrari.

I don't like driving the F430 as much as the 360. Yes it's faster and yes it has a nicer interior but it's just nowhere near as frenetic, vibrant and exciting. Admittedly the 360 has a Tubi exhaust but still...

And the interior...honestly I preferred the 360's as well. It felt old school which matched the character of the car.

A buddy of mine looked at me like I was mental when I told him that the F430 is just too smooth...and it is. Beautiful machine to be sure but dissapointed nonetheless.

I bet you are one of the few people around here who has driven both cars with manual transmissions. I drove an F1 430 when I was on my car hunt, and it felt like a modern car, whereas the 360 felt more like a classic car. Maybe the 430 will grow on you? If it doesn't you can always swap back. Nothing is forever!

That’s an interesting assessment, good thing my 360 manual is a keeper. I’m never gonna sell it!

Some have said the 430 is not well-suited to a gated manual. Can you provide more description to your comparison? As noted above, you are one of very few who have actually driven both.

It really is a fun, albeit under appreciated car.

when i first got my 458 i preferred the f430 spider...same feeling as you did: too smooth, too modern. It's nice because the 458 is giving me less headaches being a newer car, but u lost a lot of the stuff u feel in the car that makes it special and exciting

The good news is...you can sell the manual 430 and then buy 2 360's!

Different strokes for different folks. Shifting my 360 (F1) at redline was a bit ho hum. The same in my 430 manual is a frenetic epic event that requires full concentration. Maybe if my old 360 was a manual I could see your point? Would be interesting if in 12 months of having the 430 if you then drove a 360 to see if you still think the same. Having said all that, if my old 360 was manual I would still have it for sure. I was planning a manual conversion when my 430 manual fell in my lap.

You should bought the wrong 430, trade it for a 430 Scuderia. Undervalued in the market right now and you get the frenetic feeling back with just a choice bit of sound deadening removal from in the interior. :)

I too drove both and much preferred the 360. However, none of that preference is based on performance. I just like the look of the 360, both inside and out. The drives were all in and around Maranello, so the performance differences were not noticible. The 430 also seemed “bigger”, whereas the 360 fit like a glove.

That's why I never trade cars with newer ones... If I ever want a newer Ferrari or Lamborghini, I will definitely keep my Ferrari 360 Modena 6-sp manual and also add the newer car !! The excuse I find is that it has already depreciated enough not to make sense to sell !! Plus I don't want to sell and find myself in a couple of years looking again to buy a similar one !! Did it once with a Porsche 993, where I had to sell it due to relocation !! It took me 2 years to find and buy a similar optioned 993 and I am never selling it again !! Don't trade cars, just collect them !!!

I have said this before (after owning 3 360's and 2 430's gearshift of each), the 360's power band is better suited to the gearshift than the 430's. I prefer the 430 in F1. As far as interior well that is a matter of opinion, but I like being the only old looking thing inside my cars. So the 430 interior is better suited to my tastes

I can only cite from personal experience but after test driving multiple 430s, I can say without a shadow of a doubt that the one I chose is a much better performer -- by a wide butt dyno margin.

I've seen others here state a difference in stock 430s as well. I won't pretend to know what the real difference is but mine has a bunch of upgrades so I will attribute those until further educated.

    True.

Well I don't have any issue with how the car drives other than it feels like there's a lot more "rubber" in it. Much more subdued, less vibration, less energy.

I have no trouble with the clutch take-up or gear engagement. I prefer the manual 430 to the F1...I know most feel the other way.

Less headaches was definitely on my mind.

    LOL...true!

I believe that some cars are better candidates to collect than other... For instance, while the 360 manual 6-sp is a future classic and a keeper, the 360 F1 is kinda obsolete in F1 technology, so a newer 430 F1 would be a good upgrade...

Furthermore, in my opinion, when you start collecting cars, try to diversify by not collecting very similar cars in same colors... For instance a Red/black F430 would not be a good addition to a collection if you already own a Red/black 360 F1 !! These cars would be too similar... A better choice would be to keep a Red 360 manual and add a yellow or grey F430 spider, or even better a black 458 spider !! This way one car is completely different in experience from the other... It is like buying the same suite 2-3 times !! You want something different !!

I've had two 360 turned 430 owners tell me to keep my 360. I drove a 430 stick, it felt like it had a little more grunt. But I wouldn't trade that for the look and the sound of the 360.

Funny... while I loved my F430 ore than my 360, I can relate to your feelings. I had a 1987 911 Turbo which I sold for a 1991 911 Turbo and thought I was doing the right thing. I wasn't. The '87 car was raw, loud and untamed. The '91 was more refined, quiet and sophisticated. In the end, I preferred the former...
