How will he be able to get home quickly enough (allegedly to humor his wife) since there is no Concorde any longer ?
I think the more likely scenario is McLaren buying Andretti Autosport and re-branding it McLaren Indy. unless Andretti somehow manages to bring significant sponsorship with him, I don't see them being able to run an F1 team without massive liquidity problems.
I'm not 100% sure on this, but I don't think a buyout is possible under the current Concorde Agreement. I believe there is rule that states F1 constructors can't own teams in competing open wheel series. That's why you don't see a Sahara Force India Formula E team for example. The loophole was McLaren partnered with Andretti and Alonso's Indy 500 car was entered officially as an Andretti Autosport car. Now I assume with these Andretti rumors being the new face of Force India with money behind him that the Concorde Agreement says nothing about an Indy team buying into F1 and running both at the same time.
Why would Andretti invest time and money in a dying formula? If he felt compelled to enter F1, perhaps partnering with Haas and providing that team more money to develop the car...that would give both men a better deal.
If anyone can do it Michael can. Other than Penske and Ganassi he's the only team who's constantly been able to put sponsors on the side of his cars. He's already proved that he's a master at the business side of racing and he runs successful teams in other categories as well. The only other person I could imagine pulling it off over here is the Captain, but he's BTDT with F1 and I don't think he's interested in returning.
Why would Michael Andretti buy Force India? F1 hasn't been very kind to him, and involves a lot of travelling. Remember, Michael was apparently home-sick during his half-season with McLaren. It's a non starter, IMO. PS. I have been wrong before ...
Older age and a good wife helps that situation. If you trust your wife you seem to not get "home sick"
Andretti and Brown are friends. Andretti will become McLaren 2 with Lando Norris. Alonso will run Indy 500 with Andretti again.
What has a wife to do with motor racing? Michael Andretti should have sorted his life out! Look how Senna did it !
He may have missed on a good career in F1, in one of the best teams at the time and alongside the best driver in the business, all that for a woman!! Silly fool !!!!
I thought that could very well be a motivation. We'll see. As others have pointed out, it's pure specualtion by some journos in-between races. The "silly season" isn't just about drivers.
I believe you are correct. Buying a team is the only way they'll get him into F1. Would love to see the Andretti name in F1 but doubt that will happen anytime soon.
Michael is not that dumb. You think he wants to put his kid through what HE went through as the son of a famous American F1 driver? This is never going to happen because Andretti racing will never get the funds. Now that there is Haas there is no real incentive for "another" American team. If anything if Haas ever gets tired of it I can see Andretti picking over the bones.
