    From my 2500KM during last Tour Auto 2 month ago, incidentally in the ex Preston Henn’s Daytona comp, it does not sound like this. Nor a 250LM, of course I only got it from inside the car! 6885 Marcel said no already and my memory following the car on winding Tuscany roads in 2004 (ok long time ago and I don’t have a musical ear..) sound was very different and much louder.
    So still open unless news are already out!!

    You have to think that a lot of GTO owners who paid $20 million or less and saw the news of the recent private sale have to be saying to themselves maybe I should let mine go now.

    No.... not exactly. There is more to the backstory of the time this GT40 was offered by Kidston, but unfortunately I am not at liberty to say.

    That particular car has a great history and unlike so many others seems to contain most of its original parts (chassis etc.). Further it will have a bump value since its the first Mark II to be offered in a generation. Whether that is enough to get it up past the high estimate depends on taste and like any lot, it only takes two bidders to make anything happen.

    The only thing I could possibly not like about this amazing car is the god awful livery. I don’t understand the need for vintage owners to splash all of that on these amazing cars.

    I understand, and if it’s the actual livery, then I could understand. But, the vast majority of all the vintage cars wearing decals are just replica graphics. It’s also worth mentioning, livery was applied for racing purposes. It had a functional justification. It isn’t how the cars came out of the factory. Regardless, as I always say, whoever owns these cars has every right to do as they wish. I just personally prefer when they are presented in a cleaner, purer form. That’s just my opinion.

    Arguable, 2014s trio of sales were record breaking ($463 mil total), the three years since have seen total gross down (well down in some cases) (2015 - $396 mil, 2016 - $343 mil and 2017 - $329 mil). This is due to several reasons, Gooding Pebble Beach reached its peak in 2014/5, RM also offered an exciting stock list, Bonhams offering the Violatti collection incl. GTO #3851GT AND Rick Cole had its one and only successful sale incl. $22 mil. for the Parravano 410S #0592CM. Since then Rick Cole had a poor sale in 2015 and cancelled the 2016 - 2018 sales, Bonhams had good but not great sales in 2015 and 2016, Gooding has struggled to keep momentum as the Ferrari market slowed AND RM suffered in 2017 with the Portola Hotel rebuild limiting the number of lots they could offer.

    2018 is shaping as a great year, one of the top 5, although however exciting they are the GTO and 275GTB/C announced so far are the only cars certain to top $10 million and we need a few more to truly say GOAT. A strong 2018 will require more from Gooding, a full two days (160 - 200 lots) of sales at RM Sothebys and continual strength at Bonhams. In another month we will know.
