Indeed, I echo those sentiments and appreciate the efforts of anyone who actually adds value to the overall perception of the Countach by their efforts, to the benefit of others.

Exactly correct, when Trefor Thomas was still alive, I had some pretty interesting interviews with him about all this, meanwhile in recent times, I've managed to uncover some Mimran-era material and correspondence between Lamborghini and the USA compliance entities which proves that the Fuelie engine was for no reason other than to meet emissions mandates.

No, the Fuelie cars were fully intended by the factory to be bogged down with cats and restrictions due to EPA/DOT, that was exactly their sole purpose, the only reason for their creation, the factory had another variant for the ROW/Europe free of all the EPA/DOT devices which the Fuelie came with - this would be telling the truth.

Have you seen the factory production memos, correspondence and spec sheets for the Fuelie?

Exactly, something which Bosch appears to be very familiar with by the way, judging by their alleged involvement in the VW fuel consumption scam ;)

If the buying public really want these reasonably priced 4 valve Countachs you speak of, they'll sell like hot-cakes, and there'd be no need for you to worry about any brokers, right?

Anyway, why don't you post this revelation in the Fuelie thread?

Something along the lines of 'Get your reasonably-priced 4 valve Countachs here!'

Ahem, I actually stated "lower hp due to Catalysts, etc."

Can't make anyone happy here! Hahaha...

I think it is well know I am a Fuel Injected car fan... I really am confident in my VERY unbiased summary of all the cars.

You are 100% correct, my father was authorized service/sales through Nastasi and worked with Trefor/Jas, I SHOULD know this.

Unfortunately, impromptu camera pieces like this don't always make for the best fact checking, but I am trying!

By video 200, I should be a pro!

Agreed, it was apparent that you have a passion for all Countach models as a whole, nice job!

I especially enjoyed your summery of the Anniversary, they will certainly develop a stronger following as enthusiasts become more familiar with the model.

John pay no attention to the naysayers, they should be thanking you too for taking the time to champion the cause of the cars, deal in them, research them, collate the data, and make the films. Quite unbiased indeed, and where you've stated preferences, you're simply telling it like it is on the basis of actual first-hand experience with all the variants.

Agreed, the 25th deserves special note, when I started the 25th Anniversario appreciation & resource thread some years ago, that was the intent

very refreshing to see a young (well, younger than me ) expert in the field with this level of passion, creating original content about these cars and sharing with a wide audience on social media. well done John.

I think Polo Storico will (hopefully) continue to get better, I recall when Ferrari Classiche started years ago there were critics, but as always practice makes perfect, so quality has improved.

One interior leather upholstery mistake that I have seen of four (4) different Countach LP400 restored in Italy is the erroneous use of piping around the shift gate, this is a very elementary mistake as it is well-known that this feature did not start till the Quattrovalvole.

Here below you can see what I mean as illustrated with 1120062.

Kidston's restorer made the same mistake when they restored 1120200, and amazingly they've repeated it with both 1120010 and 1120248!

Anyway, erroneous details like this when viewed in a new restoration speak to bigger things, yet it's a simple correction for the upholsterer to make.

    Victor,
    very interesting.
My ex-LP400 had a single rectangular air vent on the center console and not the 2 round onces. I never saw any other LP400 with that -little- detail.

The welt cord around the shift gate actually first appeared on some 2V LP 500s as seen illustrated in this period photo:

You are right, showing yet again that these upgrades often occurred within towards the end of production of any variant.

That said, no LP400 or LP400S should have this, the vast majority of LP500S do not have this, and all QVs have it as it became standard appointment with that variant.

  25. Interesting post, thank you for that. Which experts would you recommend to restore an old Lamborghini?
