Yes, it was modifed during the first restoration of 1120118 in the late 80s or early 90s.
I could find a tiny low-res photo of 1120118's interior when new in Japan. The vents were normal for sure.

Well, tricky question. Several people come to my mind.

Probably in first place would be Olivier N. from Belgium, as he truly is the ultimate living Lamborghini encyclopedia.
Depending on which Lamborghini models, several other enthusiasts can be considered experts.
Marcel W. from the Netherlands and Kevin C. from Belgium have great knowledge with the early Lambo's. Ivor D. from England for the Urraco and Silhouette, definitely!
Raymond S. from Switzerland is a Countach and Jalpa maniac. Joe S. and John T. in America know their stuff too, especially Miura and Countach.
Leo S. (LEMACC) from Germany is the Diablo expert in my opinion and he can also help sourcing older model parts. Oh, and of course not to forget the wonderful Emilio P. in Italy who can find even the lost holy grail when it comes to original parts!
Personally, I focus mainly on the LP400 & LP400S. I already shared my expertise on 15 restoration projects, 12 of them being LP400.

Different people have different approach. Some being experts as a business and some only as a non-profit passion.
I think it is better to consider several experts to work on different parts of a project, rather than only one entity to take care of everything.
Polo Storico is starting to understand that concept as well...

  3. Thank you for your thoughts and information. I hope as well that Polo Storico is constantly improving, I think they are on the right track.

I think when rambointhegarage was asking who you would recommend to restore an old Lamborghini perhaps he actually means a restorer who does the work?

Or are we talking about a restoration consultant?

The people you've mentioned are very experienced with Lamborghinis, but I don't think any of us actually work as dedicated restorers.

Speaking for myself, for clarification, I do not restore Lamborghinis, however I work closely on a hands-on basis with someone who does, and occasionally consult for select clients of mine.

Rob, not that I know of, the factory installed them in certain cars, that said you can always get them re-profiled.

This is the Middle East specification dust-proof closed air-box.

As Joe said Middle Eastern spec. cars came fitted with this airbox. It appears that the sealing valves have been removed from this particular unit. This airbox was also used on the Lamborghini East (Joe Nastasi) USA Downdraught cars. In the middle east this airbox was meant to keep sand out. In the USA application, it was intended to reduce evaporative emissions.

The Middle eastern airbox is a real heavy part compared to the EU/ROW spec airbox.

Perhaps one of the all-time epic Countach rescue stories, especially when you understand that Reunion Island is a dot in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Madagascar, itself off East Africa, a story of persistence

Spent a half hour going through the thread with a Coffee, amazing work given the circumstances and resources available. One more Countach saved.

He certainly set it up right with well-tuned carbs, free-flow headers and open exhaust, it sounds epic, shoots flame on the overrun
