    Dear Sirs,
Can anyone teach me what to do, my brand new 488 GTB has warning signal “Engine system control failure” on the third day driving, then I sent to service Center for repair, they took 4 days to solved problem, unfortunately, the warning signal appeared again on the 3rd day. Then service Center picked up my car for 2nd repair, now they already hold my car for more than 10 days, I still don’t know when they can fix my car.
I tried to complain Hong Kong dealer and Italy customer service but seems no one can help me and tell me what’s going on.
I got my brand new car from dealer on 31st of March, but my car staying in service Center for more than two weeks.
Should they replace new car to me? Or what else I can do, I am very helpless.
    Please help.

Its less than a few days old. Can hardly call it a Lemon or dealer fault. Has to be a production issue with a possible bad connector / sensor somewhere in the loom. The HK mechanics for Ferrari are probably the most experienced based on the number of cars they handle for any city. I have had Ferraris for 20 years and Lancias before that since the 80's all serviced by the same dealers here. They have always managed to fix any issues in the past but I guess there is a lot more electronics in cars now. Not sure if a replacement car is something that will happen due to the First Registration Tax . Unless they trade in this one for their resale and give you a new one. I would just wait and let them test it for reliability, unless they are waiting for some parts?

This is very normal for Ferraris. Usually it is a sign that everything is working as expected. If the light doesn't go off when you reboot the car then you should get a Bluetooth OBD2 Dongle and use the iphone app to cancel the fault codes. Worst case the dealer can cancel them for you. In my experience these lights never affect performance, let alone steering and braking.

    Thanks for your reply.
However, the Ferrari just changed the new dealer and according to Hong Kong dealer, they already checked everything and they didn’t find anything wrong, so what they are doing is testing car requested by Ferrari Italy they upload report then wait then testing upload then wait. After almost 10 days testing, yesterday morning when they do the short distance test drive the same signal lights on again. I don’t think I can pick up my car earlier than next Tuesday. The problem is I spent more than half million euro to purchase this brand new Ferrari, then most of time it stayed in service Center and maybe technician guy drove more millages than I did. Is that right? I didn’t receive calls from top management of Hong Kong dealer say sorry to me or explain to me why but only the technician young guy reply to me after my pushing and tracing on WhatsApp. I am so frustrated and disappointed but this service are worst than any other car brands like Porsche, BMW and even Audi. I don’t know who can help me and who can I complain to.

It’s a practically hand built car. So many cars are like this when they arrive at a dealer. I was told by techs at my local porsche dealer that they get cars with faults and have to work through them. It will be worth it.

FYI something like a family member getting sick would “break my heart” but that’s just me..

Can you post a picture of the left side screen with message after immediate start so we can get a better understanding of issue. My thoughts are 2 issues. One the trickle charger was removed before battery was fully drained and restored. The car will start ok but the computer will show a error. Second have the tech check the gas cap seal as it may not be seated properly after the initial tank fill.

I have a feeling that in the process of having your detailing done the shop failed to charge the battery properly with the trickle charger.
My thought is that you can reset all the "warning signals" by doing a "hard reset".
This simply involves taking off the + cable to the battery for a minute and then reconnecting it and restarting the car.
    Good luck !

I had - but temporarily, fortunately - this message yesterday (as well as other failure messages) at a warm track day; it seems that the car does not like the hot weather (unexpected from a car coming from Italy ;) )

I had the same problem happen to me yesterday. Car is a week old (picked her up on 4/28) and only has 72 miles. Tried to go out yesterday for a drive and got an error message on the car right after starting it: “Engine control System Failure – Go to Dealer” (see attached picture). It ran really rough initially but got a little better within a few seconds. Drove a little (a couple 100 yards) to see if the error would clear but it would not. Restarted the car. Same issue. So I shut it down and parked it in my garage. I connected an OBD2 reader and got the following error codes:

    Code Monitor Description
    P0300 Generic Random Misfire Detected
P0301 Generic Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected
P0308 Generic Cylinder 8 Misfire Detected
P0303 Generic Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
P0304 Generic Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected
P0307 Generic Cylinder 7 Misfire Detected

Then the above messages repeat in order 2 more times.

Will be talking with the dealer tomorrow and will keep you posted on what I find out this week. Also added a picture of the car when I picked the car up on 4/28 … FYI, ordered it November 9th.

Thanks for sharing your story Frenchie.
I cannot wait, so, I went to the showroom and request to talk to top management instead of the sales in this morning. Finally, I got the manager grade listen to my story. Then I got the call from the service center, they finally explained to me, they are 90% sure its software problem, they claimed there is a software update around 2 months ago, afterward they have received warning light problem from some new 488 owners. They claimed Ferrari factory still finding solutions, but I can take my car back; However if lights up again, I shall report to them then maybe I need to bring back my car to the service center. One thing they can be sure is, it's not the hardware problem as they have been checking any possibilities. So, I will pick up my car tomorrow afternoon as I need my car, I want to drive my car. The technician drives my car more than I did. Just hope they will find the solution very soon. I am still quite frustrated.

    Thanks, rocketman.
However, service center already eliminated battery issue. They are quite sure its updated software problem(bug).

Lemon law in California would be very problematic for Ferrari... Anyone from Cali having the issue?

I think as others have stated, this is becoming a common issue. I do think there is some sort of a more formal software fix but the good news is, nothing is really wrong with the car. I have a lusso with the V8T that did the same thing (actually it really cycled through with a failure of just about every system on the car). I am meticulous about keeping it on the tender bit sometimes I am lazy and don’t shut off the start stop mode. It often seemed to happened after that mode had engaged. The dealer suggested that the software that monitors the alternator and the charge status of the battery is misreading it and allowing the voltage of the battery to drop. Anytime this happens, the Ferrari computer flips out (happened on my 458 as well when I left it off the tender too long and is very common if you check out other threads).

Anyway, he did some sort of reset at the dealership, then told me NOT to plug in the tender for 24 hours, then back to using as usual. I have not yet had the problem recur but haven’t had the chance to drive much due to travel. Another friend had same in his 488 and I believe is working now. Don’t despair. Ultimately will be a simple problem and they will get it fixed for you, one way or another (sometimes these things are fixed in ‘Italian’ time...not NY or Hong Kong time)

When mine was first delivered I got a slew of messages including all of these but they cleared after a restart and running it for a bit. I have been driving mine regularly since and no problems. I drive it several times a week and am now up to 980 miles but the sales guy told me that the car should be on tender if it's not driven after 72 hours. I find that strange but I still haven't used the tender and the car did sit longer than 72 hours without driving the week we had a lot of rain. Probably went five days without driving it.

When my car was delivered it had 105 miles and was six months old. Hadn't been driven much at all and mostly sat in storage so I am guessing that if you guys start driving them around some maybe this will clear up.

Got my new 488 today and noticed that the check engine light comes on at every start and it takes about 20 seconds for it to turn off after the start. Car is running beautifully so am not concerned at all so far. No error messages or anything like that.

John - This seems to be typical of any 458 or 488. I have a 458 and it does the same thing. Matter of fact, I think my 430 also did it.
