Corn was on the money , some with butter, some with bbq sauce. Sorry no after pics, all gone before it hit the table[emoji16][emoji16] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The Chinese restaurant last night is defiantly a truck place as vehicle choice. Security guard in their parking lot though. Out front there is drug addicts and prostitutes..... Its our sketchiest neighborhood by far. But the food is awesome.
Alas, there is often a correlation between those two! When we lived in Memphis. The best BBQ & Southern food joints were often in sketchy neighborhoods. But, man was the food good. And, w/o exception, service was always above par as these places were universally mom-pop joints not corporate/franchise type places. Happy Canada Day, Max! A holiday is a good day to round up one of your stable of ladies and go for an outing! T
I'm weird (yeah, I know, weird scientist, what a shocker), but I love my sweet corn plain. No butter. No salt. Nada! Well, maybe a little grill-induced char. That's why in bad corn years, it's a downer. If I want my corn doctored up, I go to a Tex-Mex joint & have elotes. https://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2013/07/mexican-street-corn-elotes-recipe.html My favorite is this gas station in south Dallas that make elotes in a cup, so I don't have to bother with silk, getting corn kernels stuck in my teeth, etc. Just get a plastic spork, and dig in! T
Thanks...… Both are doing things with their families today. I might head over to Eastern Washington State again. We had an apple juice business but shut it down a few years ago. Sold the building it was in last year. I have four pallets of boxes on our vacant land that need to be cleaned up. Want to do it while we are overcast and cool temp wise. When summer hits it will be too hot.
Waiting to see if my parents want to make the drive tonight to Eastern Washington. If we go, I'll stop at the casino for the buffet.
You're a brave man, Max! Last time the wife & I were in Vegas, we went to a buffet @ Caesars Palace. People love king crab legs! Chicken (thighs) and sweet corn on the BGE tonight. Have my chicken thighs marinating in a concoction of cola, apple cider and balsamic vinegar, herbs & spices, and peach juice. Traveling soon - need to empty pantry/fridge - so's it's everyone into the pool! With temps hovering in the low 100's F, I am tempted to leave the chicken out in the direct sunlight and cook it that way...T
New plan.... My moms prescription's wont be ready until 6pm. Its too late to leave tonight for Eastern Washington. So we'll go for fish and chips instead.
More from the new local BBQ place; Chicken Ribs Collard greens Smoked Mac n cheese Was the first time trying their collards and Mac n cheese...both were well above average. (The owner is a southerner) And miss Ania’s corn bread (yup, she baked another batch...she’s addicted to it presently.) Image Unavailable, Please Login
Got elote from a nice Mexican couple at the local gamers market last week...yum! They also make a killer green and red salsa. I love local handmade products...got goat cheese and honey and even jams and preserves from folks there. Several local ranches selling their meats too. Tried filet from one...yuck. My palate is tuned to prime grade marbling and the local grass fed and no finish beef was yucky to me. I got some ground beef from another local to try as burgers next week. And of course some great veggies. Have I mentioned how much I love the local food movement?
^Collards if done right are fantastic. If not. [emoji51] Mac & cheese, on the other hand, ranges from tolerable to AMC smack yo mamma good![emoji2] Image Unavailable, Please Login Thighs on the Big Green Egg. Corn too. [emoji847] T
Is the corn bread the sweet type? My MIL used to love "sweet" corn bread muffins. I'd add some creamed corn to the batter, a little sugar, and bake...T
BGE here too. Flank steak and asparagus (again tonight). Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Doggie chicken treats. Image Unavailable, Please Login
NBNW...My wife agrees with you! [emoji2] She just shakes her head. Like most of my food oddities, I blame my grandma. That's the way she ate it, so I followed along. It was good, nothing to mask that sweet, corn flavor. Image Unavailable, Please Login Final product, plated. Stripped the skin before cooking. Otherwise, it's impossible to fight off the urge to eat all that crispy, no-good-for you chicken skin. [emoji23] But, with the marinating in and basting with my concoction, plus using thighs, it was plenty moist enough. Since it's hotter 'n carp, we're enjoying it with chilled vinho verde. Doggie treats! [emoji2] Well done. The world's most spoiled dog approves! Image Unavailable, Please Login Great looking grub. By the way, are those the local tomatoes you were mentioning in another thread? They look outrageous. [emoji39] In Memphis, we'd wait all year for Ripley Tomatoes to come due. They were so good. Sprinkle a little salt on them & then eat like an apple! T
^ wife said NC tomatoes. Local should be soon. Can’t wait. Think we have a close race for most spoiled dog(s).
I checked with the baker, she says “yes” she uses a bit of brown and regular sugar and honey (but she hasn’t heard of creamed corn...showing her now on google...hopefully in the next batch)
Caprese looks great...now I gotta get some (although I haven't seen tomatoes that look that good yet this summer)
Fish and chips was good..... I love deep fried foods. I have a greenhouse up the street from me that sells veggies at their fruit stand. They have awesome tomato's.
I'm running up to grab a pizza at our local Canadian chain Panago. Small beef taco or Philly cheese steak. Border lines have been too long to go today. I'll wait until tomorrow now. Hate getting in past 10:30 pm.
Holiday up there or too many folks vacationing? Image Unavailable, Please Login Red lentils. Onions, bell peppers. Curry powder. Garlic powder. S&P. Broth. Tomatoes. Chard. Tikka masala sauce. Simmer. Added in some cooked chicken at the end. T
