Actually, It's VERY DIFFICULT to find one that only has $100K in needs.

True, there are cars that need less or very little, but in my experience its very rare.

@ age 30 - 33 years old, unless they have been superbly preserved in mint condition like CP's car, most QVs are knocking on the door of a full restoration or significant refurbishment. Owning a Countach is a significant commitment. If the engine has been rebuilt already, the interior and body now tired, and so on and so forth. Sometimes it's better to do the whole car and give it a uniformly new lease of life. Restorations are a $250,00 - $300,000 proposition easily.

In my experience, most cars that look anywhere from "nice to okay" need around $100K to tidy them up a bit and cover 30-40 years of deffered maintenance and "hack" repairs- just to make them reliable drivers- You are right on the money about the cost of a proper restoration.

When it comes to people I agree. When it comes to a Countach, it's just a matter of lots of $$$

  7. Jay Leno said something along the lines of "You restore the car, then run it in the ground, and then restore it again."

Shame your analogy is poorly made as cars are mechanical things which can in fact be remanufactured to better-than-virgin status, but here is a more applicable saying for you: You can’t half-ass a USA Fuelie into a Euro :)

Still better and perhaps you'll relate to this one: If you put lipstick on a pig, it’s still a pig ;)

Somebody just sent me detailed images of your car at a MA Cars & Coffee, if you like we can commence a discussion on the virtues (or lack thereof) of your car's partial gender transformation?

Meanwhile, here's one more saying whilst we are on sayings, this relevant one hopefully your mother told you: Don’t cast stones if you live in a glass house.

You are so right Mike, today's materials & methods ensure that the cars currently being restored will last for double or more than the previous 30-plus years it's taken them to require restoration. A cost-no-object restoration done by knowledgeable & skilled people spending over 5 times the time the factory dedicated to each car is head & shoulders above the mediocre that we are so often treated to. I was fortunate to find the ex-Lamborghini CEO Patrick Mimran when I was in the middle of our restoration and he followed it all the way to the end and then confessed: we never built them this well to begin with! You won't be surprised to hear I took that as a compliment. Effectively, a car can in fact be made to be better than new.

Back on topic for this thread as of today it's been announced that Miura P400S 4863 is coming to auction!

    https://www.autoclassics.com/posts/news/pop-star-rod-stewart-lamborghni-miura

The records of the Miura's ownership, after Rod Stewart sold it, is complete, and shows more than two decades with a single enthusiast. it's recently undergone a €300,000 restoration by Lamborghini’s in-house classic restoration department, Polo Storico.
The Miura is estimated to fetch £1,200,000 (@ $1,586,000) to £1,400,000 ($1,850,000) at RM Sotheby’s London sale. There's more information on the sale here.
It will also be on public display before the sale, at the Salon Privé Concours d’Elegance at Blenheim Palace, 30 August to 1 September.

I am personally so excited about this because it's about time we had truly top condition Lamborghinis come to auction so we can see what they can bring. If this car gets within it's estimate, those'll be strong numbers for a P400S, I won't be surprised if it exceeds those numbers, and if it does, you'll see the value of an authentic restoration.

The same place they were when your Fuelie comrade made this post https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/posts/146079959/ which you gave thumbs up to.

Personal insults? You mean like the ones I hear you do on Lambosour about Ferrarichat in general and me? Aw, here I thought I was just being funny.

Meanwhile no need to whine, the second part of my post was actually very informative, after all it is big news that Rod Stewart's former Miura S is coming to auction, FWIW it even has a nickname given to it by Polo Storico who restored it - Maggie May ;)

I am not sure we will as this will also have the Rod Stewart bump in price!

    No sense of humor ;)

Good point, I thought about this, but I still think if it does well it'll be because of the full authentic restoration back to original spec.

The reason I feel this way that Rod Stewart's cars don't have a track record of bringing spectacular prices over standard values just because he owned them, if the sale of his Diablo VT, Countach LP400, Miura SV, and Miura S over the years are anything to go by.

That said the Rod Stewart linkage should help.

  18. Joe's response was in bad taste, but so was your reply that started it. For those that think I take any particular side, your wrong. I just try to keep things even. With personal jabs on both sides, this really is not going to happen 100% every time. Get over it & enjoy using the site/section or find something that's more beneficial to you. I don't own a fi or dd Countach, but in fact own what I thought was the best car on the market at that time, a carbed 5000s. I had almost every variant in my hands, with the exception of a LP400 and a S1. Yup, even a dd. The funny thing is that the most expensive and best shape cars were the Anni's, but I wanted a round belly as Harry calls them. With a wing. I bought what I wanted, so all of this gibberish about why their car is better is just bench racing to me.

Joey, I promise that if I am spoken to in good taste, I will respond only in good taste.

You cannot get a better deal than that! ;)

Me too, are we missing something?

Indeed, if it sold for 951k Eu then it sold for right in the middle of it's estimate range, and, all things considered, $1.1 million is a really good result for 1120062
