Just read the Pininfarina press release: 4th July 1958, the 500 “Spiaggina” made its first debut in the streets of Capri. An iconic car that accompanied Italians throughout the economic boom and social rebirth of their country. Loved by VIPs, actors, singers, TV anchors and entrepreneurs that went crazy for its unique style, the “Spiaggina” has become the emblem of an era thanks to its elegance; a myth of the ‘60s and the symbol of La Dolce Vita. Today, 60 years later, Lapo Elkann reinterpreted La Dolce Vita in a 4.0 version. The “Spiaggina” by Garage Italia has been created thanks to the precious technical and engineering contribution of Pininfarina and the support of Fiat. It makes more sense for me in that context.
Thanks for posting! Those headlights set so far back on the front fenders remind me of Buick "Portholes" as does the front grill treatment. Unfortunate coincidence? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Funny story about those Buick portholes. I was the Exterior Chief Designer for the 2006 Buick Lucerne, and I wanted to do a contemporary version of Buick's historical portholes from the '50's. However, the only way I was willing to do them was if they were functional, with actual holes stamped into the fenders. No phony portholes for this 'sailor'! We went around and around with the manufacturing guys to get them to agree; either functional portholes.........or nothing! We managed to convince everyone they had to be functional. They finally agreed after all my whining. They never did actual holes after that program. Fake ones these days. The V8 cars had 4 per side, the V6 cars had 3 per side. Imagine that. . My Grandfather, and Dad had Buicks (no apostrophe)... The '53 Special and Super had 3 and the Roadmaster V8 had 4. They were fake.
Who sez wheel size doesn't matter? Saw these last week, cracked me up. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Fascinating conversation on the future of the Italian Carrozzeria. https://cardesignnews.com/articles/design-interviews/2018/07/michael-robinson-discusses-the-future-of-the-italian-carrozzeria It’s a whole new ball game out there sports fans.
You, sir, are so hard to please! Hopefully, you are open to compromise over the big wheel vs. little wheel thing. This design seems seems to average things out for everybody. Image Unavailable, Please Login
It really does seem like Globalism is destroying everything I loved. Im so glad i experienced the world pre-2000
Where are we going to put all those sensors? https://cardesignnews.com/articles/resources/2018/07/sponsored-how-magna-aims-to-preserve-beauty-in-the-age-of-autonomy
So, instead of decorating front ends with those old-fashion passé LED lights, designers will be creating patterns with sensors. Got it! Image Unavailable, Please Login
