Just wanted close this thread off as a success today.
Vac'd out complete system today to get rid of any flushing agent and any contamination left behind.
Held pressure rock solid for about 20-25 mins so very pleased I had no leaks after re assembling system myself.
Re gas and oil as per Ferrari service manual 1KG of gas 330ml oil.

Attached photo of temperature at tick over (1000 revs)and second picture temperature at 1500 Revs
Bear in mind it was 28-30 degrees today in UK where I live, crazy weather for us.

So once the our UK weather cools down the air inside the cab will be EVEN cooler
I will drive it this evening to give it a proper test as busy at moment.

    Sorry guys,
One more question for 328 owners.

Dumb question but remember I've never had air con working before in my car.
So I take the car for a long drive with the roof on and the new air con system On full Chat.

After about 20 minutes of driving I start to notice I can hear a loud ish clicking noise from the front passenger foot area, the roof is on so amplifies the noise I suppose.
I believe the heating relays are down in footwell area, are they that loud!!
Is that normal guys, don't get me wrong I can live with it but it's a tad annoying.

Got out the car after long drive ice Cool, what a pleasant feeling;-)

How regularly is it clicking? The way the system works is that it cycles on & off with a loud click from behind the AC control in the middle of the centre console. Essentially it gets cold then it seems to need to warm itself up a bit , then it cuts in & goes again. How often it does this depends on air temperature, engine revs, how fast the fan is running & where you have the AC control set.

One thing to note is that the 1kg of gas is for R12, ISTR that if you use R134 (or RS24) then it doesn't need/take that much , you should only use about 80% of that.

Did you gas it with a pressure gauge on the ports or did you just put 1kg of gas in it? It may be that what you are hearing is something to do with the compressor struggling/locking because there is too much gas in the system.

    Hi Iain
I was driving on the motorway for about 40 minutes at about 60-80mph and it was a hot day 27-29 degrees.air con set to max with fan at max also.
I heard it at least four or five times, it was probably more but I was driving so concentrating more on that at the time.

Mike the air con guy had his pressure gauges connected all the time.
I gave him the info from the manual about the gas/oil and he did say it would be a bit less, but didn't question him to how much he actually put into the system as he's the professional.
I will get a passenger to ride with me next time, so we can hear exactly where the noise is coming from.
    I'll double double check
    Thanks for the reply

If it was re-gassed with pressure gauges on it then I'm sure its fine (and I doubt he put 1kg in it ;-) )

Thank you for this thread. It inspired me to sort out my air conditioning.

It hasn't worked since I bought the car 12 years ago despite having had 3 air conditioning services in that time.

I intended to do as you had, bought the drier and expansion valve. Tried to diagnose the system myself to confirm there was a blockage. I used gauges and temperature measurements but couldn't work it out.

Found a vehicle air conditioning specialist and asked for a professional diagnosis. (Mark 4 air conditioning in Slough, England)

The 134a filler ports on my car had been installed the wrong way round (high on the low, low on the high) - I had been told this when the air con was last serviced.

The specialist swapped the ports, refilled the system and it now works. The specialist thinks that people had been trying to fill into the high side and as a result were getting the pressure wrong.

I've measured the temperature by poking a thermocouple in the vents.

Air temperature outside the car 21c.

With max air conditioning the thermocouple cycles between 15c and 3c ( I've seen it go as low as 1c)

With half air conditioning the thermocouple cycles between 15c and 6c

(The cycling is obviously caused by the system switching it self off when it gets too cold and on again when it warms up)

    Total bill approx £128

    Sweet!!!!!!
