OK I realize this board may be biased but maybe a few have done or are thinking the same? I took delivery of a new GT3 manual (with Touring package) 3 mos. ago. Great car and really enjoying it so far. Makes a nice complement to my Speciale which I have owned since new. BUT with the roll out of the 812 I see quite a few LOW mileage F12's up for sale at near $150K or more below MSRP - not too far from the market on the GT3. So naturally I'm considering IF it would be a good time to jump into the V12's in this fashion - I've never had a V12 F car before. BTW can't keep them all so something would have to go. Any words of wisdom here? Thanks!
I had a 2016 f12 and had a 2018 gt3(pdk). It depends what your looking for. The f12 is an amazing car, sounds incredible and could be used as a comfortable daily but the gt3 was more fun around town and short drives for me. I enjoyed the f12 more on longer drives than I did short runs around town because you can't open up the f12 much, but I do live in a congested area. The f12 is an experience, but I did enjoy the gt3 and only sold it because I have an RS coming in.
I also sold my second GT3. And didn't look back. The only car I think I still miss, a bit, was the gt4. Go F12.
They are very different cars. The V12 is a mega engine and absolutely worth the swap for me, but if you track and want the best handling over very twisty roads, the GT3 is better. The F12 is a 30 piece orchestra - not practical for tight spaces but can make a sound like nothing else while providing wonderful entertainment and something of a grand and overwhelming experience, the GT3 is a three-piece jazz trio - more intimate, more mobile, highly technical but intuitive at the same time, not everyone’s ‘cup of tea’ but a seminal experience to those who get it. If you got the itch, so long as you don’t expect the F12 to be a 12 cylinder GT3, best scratch it!
Thanks so far for the cultured opinions, some very eloquent! Already had a GT4, traded it on the GT3.
GT3 is a super cool car but it simply is not as special as F12 and that is one thing very hard to explain until you own it. You will be hooked on the Ferrari passion and experience for life!
Apples and Gorillas. Not similar or comparable cars. F12 is a GT compared to the GT3. I bought the GT3 for the manual. Almost as good as its 2011 RS sibling. I like the F12, but it’s for completely different driving. Just two completely different cars. Having said all that, the Speciale as you know, compares to the GT3. I like having both. A lot. But if you’ve tired of the similarity, the F12 is not similar. Price wise, I see the GT3 manual holding value longer and stronger than the older model F12 for three years.
Had an 2017 F12. Just got a 2018 911 turboS. I know most of you will think I’m out of my mind but I think the turboS is a lot more fun. The only thing I really miss is the exhaust note and I hope to rectify that with a fab speed exhaust I have ordered. Yes the F12 is more exotic but I can drive the turboS much more and not worry as much about what my client or staff think because Porsche just has a different meaning then Ferrari to most people who don’t know cars well.
Are you 100% sure of this? Reason I'm asking is because I have a 2017 Turbo S which I love but I'm having the itch to get a 812, never had a Ferrari so that's another reason I want to make the jump. I know sound wise Ferrari V12 is on another level cause I've driven a F12 very shortly as a test. I've been back and fourth about it but lately the urges for the V12 are starting to win me over.
Actually some would say it's another dimension when its near 9k. To me, 9k with porsche GT3 is another level below F's V12 or V8, in my experience. I think a turbo car at 6k RPM can be safely assumed to be another dimension from the V12. So you will be very very happily surprised.
I have a 2018 GT3 touring and a 2014 F12 - they are very different cars, the GT3 is a much more agile sports car, the F12 the uber GT with a slightly mad streak. I absolutely love my new GT3, to the extent that I am having second thoughts about taking my incoming 812 replacement for the F12, which I would realistically need to sell the GT3 to fund now, and just keep both. If I had to sell either the GT3 or the F12 currently, I think would be the Ferrari which would go. But as I said, they are very different cars, both have amazing drivetrains and chassis, but ultimately I do like the involvement of a clutch and stick that the Porsche offers. With a manual touring you don't need to rush that much, enjoy your gt3 and be on the look out/and try to give the price you want for a good spec later year f12, and change it. The f12, will only see down for the next years, your touring, worst case scenario your touring will trade at msrp. In the end, yes do it, but get the right f12 and enjoy the hell of your touring before trading
Seawise, do you know that you can make your f12 much more agile and b road fun with just a proper corner balance and 'fast road' setup? It will never be a gt3 but you won't miss it as much
Not sure where you're located but my dealer still has 2 allocations on new gt3 (with a hefty premium), as to the 812 last I spoke to the local dealer you can get on the list and there is a 1.5 year wait
Yes there are dealer allocations and client allocations for the 812 all around the world, not as easy everywhere as with the f12 tho.
